If my annual pass ends 5/27/12 how long do i have to renew it. Because We wont' be going back into the world until July 2012 and then in April 2013. So when should i renew!!!

I believe you have thirty days to renew your pass. You may renew it online.

I'm not an expert, but I believe that the renewal "discount" is equivalent to a month, so -- if you won't be using the pass for a full month (June 2012) you might be better of purchasing a new AP when you arrive in July.

On the other hand -- if you for certain wouldn't use the extra "time" on the back of the pass (you won't be there between late May 2013 and July 2013) then cash on hand might be better, in which case ignore me totally and listen to the PP about the 30 days and renewing online.

It is cheaper to buy a renewal pass than a brand new one so would just renew within your renewal window.

To get the renewal rate you must do the renewal within 30 days on either side of the expiration date. However, when you renew you save an amount equal to about 1/12 of the cost of a new AP, or about one month of use.

You may be much better off waiting until your actual new trip and get a new one at that time, which will also change the anniversary date.

You might want to look at the Everything About WDW Tickets locked sticky in the TPA&S Forum. Especially the items bolded in the list below.

I'll second this. If you renew now, you're paying for a lot of months that you won't use the AP. Waiting until your June trip and buying a "new" pass would be more economical.

We struggle with this too. If you're 100% sure you won't go in June of 2012, and won't be wanting to squeeze in another trip in early July then I who'd renew online within 30 days of your exp date. Yes, you technically extend the use of the AP by getting a new one on your July trip, but if yo won't use that extra time, might as well save the money with the renewal price. We got new ones this year and finally pushed our exp date out so we can do a trip in may this year. our Disney wedding anniversary is in April, so we seem to always buy or renew then, and then the following year end up vacating close to Easter to use our ap's one more time. This year we let them expire and got new ones in late june when we added a quick trip.

It really depends on the future trips on whether the renewal is worthwhile, regardless of how long it is in between the time you renew and the first trip on the new pass.

I renewed a July expiration AP when the next trip wasn't until October, because we also had an April trip the next year, and knew we wouldn't be back after that for a while. So the renewal savings still made sense.

If you aren't SURE you won't make an extra trip that might benefit from a new AP purchased later, then it's something of a gamble...
