I think I have done enough digging around the boards to answer my own question, but I want to be sure.
I have several trips to WDW either booked or planned for 2011. The first is in February. Now that Im a DVC member it makes sense for me to purchase APs for the family, at the discounted price, rather than separate tickets for each trip. My initial concern was what if the DVC discount goes away between now and February. However, I now understand that, when you purchase the APs through DVC, you actually get a voucher that you can later trade in for your AP. And, this voucher never expires. Assuming this is correct, it would make sense for me to go ahead and purchase my APs now at the discounted rate and then wait until February to trade them in for the actual Annual Passes.
Am I understanding all this correctly?
