Annual Pass Purchase Question

We are now adding on 3 days at WDW after our cruise in August. We have a huge trip planned for next August also. So we know that if we buy an AP we have 1 year from date of activation until it expires. But what happens if we keep our regular tickets we bought for this trip and on the last day of the trip we upgrade to the AP. Do we have 1 year from the first day of our trip or 1 year from the last day (the upgrade day)? I know it sounds trivial, but one day the right way and it makes sense to get an AP. Thanks!

A ticket that is used to upgrade to an AP will have an expiration date based on when the original ticket was first used.

For example: The ticket was first used on August 1st 2019, then on August 4, the ticket is upgraded to an Annual Pass. That pass will have an expiration date of August 1, 2020.

Oof... it's too bad those three days makes such a difference. Is there definitely no way to reschedule your trip so it doesn't cut so close?

I was wondering this same thing. I upgraded to an annual pass when we arrived for the RunDisney 10k in January 2019. It was the right move to take advantage of the discounts and PhotoPass during our visit.

Now that we are planning a return to the 2020 Run Disney Marathon, I was wondering if I should have waited until after. Those extra few days would have saved us buying park tickets (potentially $400+).

I was wondering this too. It makes me think I might plan next summer's trip late in the summer so that I have the option of updating to an AP and using it for 2121 too.
