I am thinking of becoming a DVC member. I figure some years I may do a few small trips while other years I might do one trip. Each trip would be about 4 or 5 days. Would I be better off getting an annual pass and then renewing every year or would I be better off getting the largest no expire Hopper ticket option and use when needed? Oh and sometimes I may skip a year completely.

Depends on how often you plan to go into a park. 10 days per year, get a AP, less, get a no expire non hopper ticket.

I figure it it is more than 1 trip, more than 6 days a DVC AP is best, or for one trip more than 10 days, of course this is not including any other AP discounts.

We stagger our yearly visits so we get 25-30 days on an AP

I would plan about 15-18 months out of when you will be going, and do it individually with an est of # of days and parks, and trips.. This will save you the most. Not being decided upfront about which way you will pick your tickets.

Any year you plan on going twice do it, there are more benifits you get 10 - 20% off alot of different things. ESPECIALLY if you like going to a park every day.

1 trip less than 8 days per year, agree with diznutz 10 day no exp. plus hopper. I would also add water park tickets, for 53$ you get 10 visits to the water parks and/or Disney Quest. Adding this to an AP a year you do get AP for timing reasons, water parks option on an AP is about 100$ per person.

I feel the AP this year is almost to cheap for renewals for DVC, 100 off for being DVC combined with the renewal discount giving us 15 months (renewed yesterday! ) and the credit for the GAD voucher put our APs at less than 1K for 3 people and were for 15 months. * (We have 7 days of water park tickets from an old pass.)

*Some would argue.. but compared to what I would have paid it would have been almost 500$ more AND only 12 months. ....AND I would have paid it.

They are still doing the 15 months on renewals. Do you know when that ends. TIA

As DVC Memebers, can we purchase an AP now, and initially use it, say, in a year or 2? Is the expiration date one year from the date of purchase, or date of first use? If we bought one now, but didn't go to a Park, could we still use it for the discounts, or would that start the expiration clock, even though we hadn't gone to any park?

The expiration date begins when you activate the card (convert your voucher). You won't have the AP until it has been converted. If you purchase the card at Guest Services (Theme Park/DD) without a voucher, the year begins on the day of purchase. If you purchase the voucher online or by phone, it will not be active until you do that at one of the Guest Services locations. Most of the discounts will require an active AP to get the benefit.

I believe it was 8/31 if they have not extended it.

So wait if you renew your AP as a DVC member you get 15 months? I put in an offer to become a member, now have ot hope Disney oks it :)

are they still doing the $100 discount on the dvc Annual pass purchase.

Yes - and $125 for a PAP DVC discount.

The AP renewal extension is not a DVC perk - it is available to all current AP holders thru tomorrow - depending on your renewal date. There has been no announcement of an extension or whether it will be offered again in the future though.

I agree with the others regarding the number of park days required to make it worth wild.
A couple of other pluses for having an AP are the ability to purchase the TIW card, and the convenience of visiting parks for short periods of time such as dinner without using a full day of a ticket.
ex. you don't use your ticket for a given day but would like to go to a restaurant at EPCOT for dinner, you won't waste a day on your ticket.

Just my $.02
