Annual Pass now vs at Trip Time

We are intending on purchasing APs for our trip in May and September. I currently have a package with tickets booked for May but I was wondering if there was any benefit to purchasing the pass now and then activating when we get there in May. Not sure if having the voucher would give us access to AP rates for hotels etc if any sales come up that we could take advantage of in May.

Appreciate any insight as we've only done APs for Universal but not WDW!

You do not need to actually own an AP certificate ("voucher") in order to book an "AP Rate" WDW resort room.
You can book (call and ask about what's available) the AP Room (if available) and just need to buy/activate the AP during the trip on which you get the AP Rate.

Otherwise, if there are any other kinds of special offers or discounts that come up for AP holders, you do need to own an (even unactivated) AP certificate in your MDX account in order to qualify for the "AP special(s.)"

And... if you buy the AP certificate before your trip, if the price of AP goes up before you arrive, you will have saved the cost of the higher-priced AP.

Oh that's interesting! Thanks Robo. Might be worth it to do so sooner than later...especially if I was actually able to score an AP rate for the first trip! (second is booked via DVC rental). Third trip might end up a go then...

If I haven’t bought an AP (yet) is there a way to see the room discounts online or I must call? I’ve tried online but it asks me to log in and after that it won’t show me the rates since I’m not AP. Any trick I’m missing?
