Make sure you ask for a discount!

Last February when I went to WDW we bought annual passes, as we were planning on going again in Oct. While there I found a bunch of "limited time" discounts on the passholder website, including 10% off merchandise at all WDW stores, no minimum.

So this Feb we had a semi-unplanned trip to Disney, for which I made it a point to check the Passholder website for temporary discounts, especially for merchandise, unfortunately there never were any (and still aren't any). But..

While making a purchase at the Emporium in MK I asked, and sure enough they said there was 10% off for passholders. Funny enough my parents made a purchase prior at another counter and were told there were no discounts when asked. Later at WL I asked at the gift shop and they would give me either an annual pass discount or the Disney Visa discount. (I took the annual, eventhough it is the same, as I don't use my D Visa that much.)

So, I don't know whether ther was supposed to be discounts or not, I just know I got 'em. So, if you are making a purchase be sure to ask if there are any discounts for whatever you got: annual pass, D Visa, DVC, etc. Worse that can happen is that they'll say "No".

Passholder merchandise discounts have been extended through the end of 2011. Yay! But beware - at Wilderness Lodge, the manager at the Mercantile insisted that Seasonal Annual Passholders are not eligible for the discount. Like we're second class passholders or something. This is NOT TRUE! I contacted Disney Guest Services by email and they called me back and told me that ALL annual passes are eligible for a discount, and that they would be educating the Cast Members that this is the case. Seasonal APs and Regular APs, 10% off. Premium APs, 20% off.

I wonder if you called and said you didn't get you discount if they'd credit you back?

Just returned. I made sure to show my AP and ID whenever I made a purchase so that I could get the 10% discount. Some initially told me that I had to make a $50 purchase before getting the 10% off. They were confused with the Disney Visa offer. When I politely told them that that wasn't the case, they entered the AP discount and the 10% automatically came off. Every single CM made sure to look at both my AP and license to confirm I was the holder. Never remember that happening before. Maybe people were lending theirs out to family and friends?
