Annual pass info?

Does anyone know....

If you buy an annual pass, is there a website or newsletter or special phone number to keep you, as a passholder, informed of discounts, dates, specials, etc? I'm thinking this is the way to go, but since I'm new at it, I want to be sure I have access to info about the AP. Thanks in advance!

Well, there is the AP *Hot Line* that isn't toll free. The DC gives members a toll free number. So that's one over on the AP.
There is the Mickey Monitor.
But these boards and mousesavers.com are the best place to find out what really going on for discounts, etc, IMHO.
The biggest perk to AP is of course beneficial if you plan on returning to WDW.
The second best is the potential for AP room discounts. But there is no guarantee a room doscount will be available for when you want and where.

I'm kind of fuzzy on this...I'm thinking of purchasing an AP...does my year start clicking when I purchase the pass or from the first date of use?

If you buy it in person at WDW, it starts the moment you buy it. If your order it by phone, online, or buy at TDS, you get a voucher which needs to be exchanged for the AP at WDW. Your one year will start upon the actual exchange of the voucher.

Okay, you can bang me on the head for being dense...so if I buy one at the DS, can I still use it to make AP ressies and then 'cash' it in when I get there?

You don't have to have the annual pass until you check in. They don't ask for a number or anything. In fact, you can wait until you see what kind of discount you get to actually decide if you want to get the AP or not.
