It looks like we might be fortunate enough to visit the World more than once in a calendar year....we are looking into buying annual passes for the year...I have a few questions:

1.) Does a previous purchase (paid for upcoming Dec. trip) go towards the cost of the annual pass?

2.) What "kind" of tickets are they - park hoppers? a park a day?

3.) Can you participate in any of the other package discounts offered by Disney through-out the year - free dining, resort room discounts etc??

4.) Does the annual pass include water park tickets??

Thanks for any thoughts...sometimes this stuff gets a bit over my head! :confused3

This thread will help with a lot of your questions:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684

1.) Does a previous purchase (paid for upcoming Dec. trip) go towards the cost of the annual pass?
You can upgrade a still valid ticket and the price of that ticket will be applied towards the cost of the AP. So if you have tickets associated with your December package, you can upgrade those and as long as you've used them once to enter a park, you'll get credit for the current gate price.

You cannot combine multiple tickets for the upgrade. See post #7 of the thread linked initially.

2.) What "kind" of tickets are they - park hoppers? a park a day?
Most ticket can be upgraded, but some cannot. It usually says in the fine print on the ticket or voucher whether or not the ticket can be upgraded.

3.) Can you participate in any of the other package discounts offered by Disney through-out the year - free dining, resort room discounts etc??
It depends...if the the package requires the purchase of tickets, then you have to decide if you're willing to buy additional tickets. Things like Free Dining have always required the purchase of tickets. Room only discounts do not require purchase of tickets and there are often Annual Passholder only room only discounts.

4.) Does the annual pass include water park tickets??
There are two different levels of Annual Passes (assuming you're not a Florida resident). The regular AP does not include Water Parks, but the Premium one does. See post #3 of the thread linked initially.

It looks like most of your questions have been answered, and the link to the tickets thread has lots of good help. Just be advised (At least the last time I looked) it hadn't been updated in a while.

2.) AP's allow hopping. they also give some other perks. I suggest you read up, the list is long and complicated.

4.) You can buy AP's that include the water parks- but basic AP's don't include water parks. DO read about converting regular tickets rules!

3. ) Usually yes, but as another poster said- some room discount offers are packages that include tickets. Then, as an AP holder, you are eligible for AP discounts. Once upon a time they were big and early, but these days the AP discounts come out late and are often on par with General Public discounts. Sometimes the best deal is to book a GP discount, then switch to the AP discount when it arrives. Usually, if you buy a package that includes discounts- you can later put the cost of those tickets towards another AP. Sometimes you can add DDP with an AP discount, but it is not usually a discount anymore. (Just a way to lock into prepaid)

Always price out your assorted discount offers to see what works best for your party and touring style. Sometimes one is a better deal, other times they are similar.

Tables in Wonderland might increase your savings if you eat on-property, have a bigger group, and/or like lots of TS dining. If you are just a group of two, and eat QS, it may cost more than it saves. TiW does give a discount at the value food courts though. Also, the discount is not automatic, you have to remember to show the card.

*****TIMING is everything!!!*****
Be aware converting tickets might be relatively quick, or it could be VERY slow. Basically you can ONLY do it at the parks or DTD- at Guest Services. Generally, it is smart to do it right AFTER using the tickets once to enter the park, but make sure the tickets are not ALL USED, and make sure you don't use any pluses- if you are only buying regular AP's (but your original tickets are pluses. Once you sue pluses, you can only convert your tickets to the plus AP's. Worst time of day to visit GS is morning! Afternoon or evening MUCH better!

It is a roll of the dice. Converting tickets might take 15minutes, or the wait-plus transaction might take an hour plus! In my humble experience, the MK is by far the best place! I've always had great service there. the line at DTD can be very long. (water parks? Maybe?) My least favorite place is Epcot, especially the back entrance of Epcot. AVOID THE IG!

Oh, and if you are going to Universal....Their AP's are a great deal! I converted my two day hoppers for like $15, no hassle at all!

Rules are subject to change at any time, but I believe APs currently include free parking, so if you stay off site, that can be a significant amount. There is also a merchandise discount, currently 10%. This, also, can add up to a significant amount if you have a bigger-ticket purchase to make. There are generally room only discounts which are slightly more than those for the general public. If Free Dining and purchasing tickets you don't need and saving them doesn't work for you, AP holders can also purchase the Tables in Wonderland card for meal discounts.

Just beware that an AP can burn a hole in your pocket!! A bad week at work can lead to, "well, it's really just the airfare and hotel, tickets are paid for...." and that can lead to "Sure, we can go down for a long weekend!" I speak from experience. :lmao:

I echo the poster who noted that upgrading tickets can vary wildly. I also think MK is the easiest place to upgrade. However, if you are going from non-hoppers to AP, just upgrade on your first day in order to be able to take advantage of the ability to hop.

The APs really make sense if you're going to spend the sufficient amount of days in the parks over a calendar year. One nice benefit is that you feel better about doing the parks for a few hours on arrival/departure days. None of that "should I burn a day's tickets for X hours?" stress. :earsboy:
