Annual Pass discounts question??

We are thinking about getting annual passes. We might upgrade our current tix for our January trip since we also received a pin to use for the rest of 2010. We live four hours from Orlando and might do some mini trips. What do the annual pass discounts include? Are they announced a few months in advanced ?? Can you book and then apply an AP discount?? Just curious since I thought I heard grumbling on the boards about them releasing discounts later than expected.

What do the annual pass discounts include? discounts vary by season and have been very different this year. There is often a room discount available, anywhere from 20%-45% off rack rate. Other discounts include merchandise discounts, TL/BB ticket discounts, special sales at the DTD stores, the ability to purchase a Tables in Wonderland dining card which gives you 20% off dining.

Are they announced a few months in advanced ?? Sometimes, in the fall of this year Disney started slacking and they didn't announce discounts until some as close as 30 days out.

Can you book and then apply an AP discount?? Yes if they have rooms available. only a certain number of rooms are available with each discount.

Just curious since I thought I heard grumbling on the boards about them releasing discounts later than expected. - Much later, in the past they have been announced around 4 month out mark, change that to 30 days out and it is a bit dishearting for those of us waiting to book a trip.

Typically passholders get the "leftovers." You will need to be somewhat flexible with your resort and dates in order to get a good deal.

Buy the AP for park admission, not room discounts that might not materialize. This past year (2009) passholders had a higher rate on Friday and Saturday nights, and many of the general public promotions were better than the AP rate because of the weekend blockouts.

Yes, all rooms might not be available with the AP discounts. We have WL booked with the 40% pin and tried to get the AP discount for the beginning of Feb for a Woods (what we have) or just the standard room Neither were avail from the very first day! I keep checking since the AP is 45% off and the regular room is even better! Most times, in the past we've had no problem getting the hotel any room type we wanted but maybe now not so many of the more inexpensive rooms will be out there. AKL had standard for 131/night the first week or so of the offer!! No one wanted to stay there, so 165/night for the woods view is the best I can get!! Now only bunk beds (no go either)
