Hello all,

I am in DL since yesterday as a guest of a friend's family. I am not paying for meals, but I have been providing my premium AP to get the discount. This has been fine with no problems. But when I tried to use it for merchandise, the CM wouldn't let us if I wasn't the one physically paying. Then she said that if there were too many occurrences of my AP being used with a different name on the credit card to pay that Disney will deactivate my annual pass. Has anyone else heard of some a thing?

The extent of my knowledge is that if you're using your AP discount then you need to be the one paying. As far as what the CM told you, I have no idea how that works.

Technically, the discount is yours. Not your friends'. So... when you present your AP and a credit card with a different name, someone else is using your discount. If a CM is following the rules, they can deny this transaction. If they chose to look the other way, they are doing you a favor. :goodvibes The computer does not know if your AP has been stolen or is just being "shared" with friends. All the system knows is that you are not using your discount, someone else is.

Will Disney de-activate your AP as you were told? IDK Could they revoke it for violating the terms of use for the discount? Yes.

Of course, the computer does not know who cash belongs to. :goodvibes

Hope you are having a great time at DLR.

Well said, Dreams! The CM that declined you was absolutely in the right. They are only supposed to give you the discount if YOU are the one paying. The other CM's that let you use the discount when not paying cut you a break/looked the other way.

It is correct that only the passholder is to receive the discount. More often than not I've seen them look the other way at food places but not so much with merchandise.

I've never heard of the deactivation of your pass as an issue. Perhaps it is some sort of fraud prevention, but I suspect if that were to happen you could get it cleared up with guest services pretty quickly.

What I do to avoid any issue is just pay for it myself and settle up with the rest of my party later. They are usually appreciative of the discount and just write me a check at the end of the trip for whatever expenses we decide they are responsible for.

I agree with everything the others have said. You need to be the one using the card, so if you use a credit card with a name on it, it has to be your own credit card with your AP. You can get around this by using cash or have the friend use their credit card to buy a gift card, then the gift card can be used with the AP pass. With this you have the added benefit of having a cute Disney gift card :yay:

When I have used my AP for discounts they just look at it to make sure it's mine without scanning it into any system. How would they have any record of the OP's AP being used to get discounts with her own credit card or anyone else's? Am I missing something here?

When you use your AP for a discount the cashier has to scan your AP so the discount comes up. So yes, if the names do not match it might show up somewhere. I honestly don't know if they track that but we just have DBF pay (he has a Premium, the girls and I just have the Deluxe AP) so we don't have to worry about it. Just to clarify, when I say scan they actually have to slide your card thru the register, just like a credit card. :) At least that's how it was done our last two trips this year.

Pixiewings is right. You might not notice that they scan it because they usually do it quickly, but they do actually take your AP and scan it through, just like a credit card.

I've had some scan and others just push a button on the register. I agree they are more lenient with food purchases than merchandise. I've used my AP and my mom has paid for a meal before.

We got got our APs in late June. I had to show my ID everywhere and even my Mom could not use my AP so I believe this. They were very strict with us and I can understand where they were coming from.

Anytime I've used my AP for a discount, they glance at it and give the discount. On RARE occassions they have asked me for ID to prove it's my pass. ONE time my daughter was making a purchase and rather than dig out her AP I tried to offer mine and they said it had to be hers, so I held up the line and dug to the bottom of my bag to find her pass to prove we were entitled to the measely discount. I apologised to everyone behind me in line (and I'm sure some were not happy with me) but on principal I wanted the discount.

Anyway, I have never had them "scan" my AP for a discount other than with their eyes.

And as far as I can recollect, I've never had them not scan mine. I'm not saying I don't believe you, just very different experiences. They even scan mine at the corn dog cart. I'm going next week so I'll be paying close attention after reading this thread, just out of curiosity.

Since getting my AP, every time I used it for discounts not only did they swipe it but they also asked me for my ID. Every time, lol.
