So we just booked a vacation for may16-23. We are annual pass holders and were thrilled to find out we could now purchase the dinning plan! My question is- since we have tables in wonderland also- let's say we use our dinning plan at a meal and we also get appetizers and other things that aren't covered under the dining plan will we be able to use our 20% tables discount on the balance??

Yes. Just note that some restaurants on the dining plan do not accept TiW - the ones that come to mind are La Hacienda, Teppan Edo, Yak & Yeti and Be Our Guest at lunchtime.

Question - why do the dining plan if you have TWL?

Dining plan is maybe a break even proposition, but whn factoring in that you could be doing twl and saving 20% on each meal I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't be costing yourself a lot of money. Seems smart to just pay out of pocket and use your discount. Thoughts?

We have done the DDP and TIW at he same time. The last trip was the QSDP, because at most park QS you cannot get a TIW discount and it was easier for my family to let the older boys go off for a while and get snacks, or a different CS lunch without worrying how much $ they are spending--15 & 16 yr old boys don't always like to hang around with mom, dad, and their little siblings. And TIW allowed us to enjoy an adult beverage, or app with any TS meals we had

We have had tiw since ap holders weren't allowed to purchase the dinning plan until this year( unless I was misinformed) the ddp is great for us with the kids. Character meals every day add up quickly. And not all places offer tiw or ap discounts. Have used the ddp many times previously and have been very happy with it. This Is the first time it will cross with our tiw/ ap discounts so I'll definitely save reciepts and do the math when we get home!

can you add the dining plan (as an ap holder) if you book your room through a 3rd party such as orbitz?

I'm so far behind, I didn't even know AP holders could get the DDP with just room only reservations. I'm so lost. Going in June and it looks like I have A LOT of planning left to do!

Even AP holders cannot get a paid dining plan with a room only reservation. What you would have to book is a ticketless AP package reservation. It would be subject to all the rules and requirements of a regular package ($200 deposit, final payment deadline of 45 days before arrival, penalties for late changes and cancellation.)

For free dining even AP holders will have to purchase the minimum required tickets.

Well, that's why I come to this board. I'm obviously still confused. I was fine until I became an AP and all of what I previously knew, changed. But I looked at the DP as opposed to TiW and TiW alone will work better for us. So, I guess I figured out what I needed to figure out. Thank you very much. I appreciate your help! :wave2:

It is definitely confusing. :) On the surface it sounds like if you have an AP you can get the paid dining plan without tickets so that would appear to mean just a room reservation and add the dining plan, but in reality, this can't be done. You have to get a ticketless AP package with its much more restrictive rules. I guess Disney wants to make it harder for someone to change their mind closer to the trip. A room only reservation has much less stringent requirements (deposit equal to first night's room rate, no cancellation penalty up to 5 days before arrival, final payment due upon arrival).

Ask any questions you have. We love to help. ::yes::
