Annual Pass AP Promo Activation Date

Hi,

I'm planning to purchase APs for a November 2022 trip. I am still hoping there will be an AP Promo for 3 additional months free. (I realize that may not happen.) I am wondering if I should bother waiting for a promo (since the AP prices may go up soon) because I know when they had the promo in January 2019 the APs had to be activated by April 2019 (and the pass would expire 15 months from that date). We didn't purchase the APs in 2019 because we wouldn't have activated them until November 2019.

Does anyone know if there's always been a specific "Must be activated by..." date on AP promos? And if so, is it always so soon after purchase?

There wasn't a 'must be activated by' date when I purchased APs in September 2020 during a 3 months free promo. This wound up causing a problem as many people (including me) had their free 3 months cancelled by the system if they weren't activated shortly after purchasing. I waited until August 2021 to activate and I noticed last month that the expiration date was wrong when I saw a few people in fb groups mentioning the same problem. It took a call (not resolved) then an email to fix the expiration dates for the 7 passes I bought. In the email, a Universal rep said the issue was caused by the lack of 'must be activated by' date for the APs during that promo.

Oh wow. So it seems there’s always a short period to activate it then. I’m glad they fixed it for you at least.

I’m in the same boat. Going this summer and have been holding out on buying our annual passes in the hopes they’d offer the three extra months promo. But I’m also concerned they’ll raise prices at any moment. I don’t know what to do. The extra three months is the difference between only going one time with our passes or being able to go twice (if we got the extra months). So it’s a huge difference. But I know there’s a chance they may not offer that promo. Such a dilemma!

YMMV I wouldn’t put much stock in the strategy of holding out for a three month AP promo To roll on out. If anything it’s been nearly 11 months since the last major tix price increase at U.

that promo is not an on-going, standard offering. No need now when they have a high ‘gate’ crowd & a very popular new attractions.

Just to add what others have said. I bought our AP's during the extra 3 month promo. I can't remember when it was, whether it was late 2020 or early 2021. We didn't activate until Jan. 1st of 2022. The team member wrote on our AP's the 15 month expiry date. I'm thinking that enough people before me had pushed Universal to allow activation at any time, so that I didn't have a problem. I thought Universal recently increased ticket price by $50 and I assumed it was for their AP.
Non-Fl resident 2Park Premiere is $559.99 and resident is $509.99

I am interested in keeping track of pricing as I compare WDW / USO

Good to know they still honored your 15 month original purchase when you were able to activate.
