Annual Pass and FP+

We currently have 10 day park hopper plus water park fun and more tickets for our upcoming trip in May, but I am thinking about upgrading to the platinum plus passes after we arrive. I have two questions, though. We've been AP holders before, but not since FP+.

So, question one: I know that AP holders can reserve seven days worth of FP+ in a 30 day period, or at least that's what I think I'm reading. So...if we end up going for, say, two weeks offsite in January, which we often do, does that mean we won't be able to use FP+ for half the days of our trip? That sounds like a real disadvantage. The past two years we've had 10 day hoppers and we've been able to make 10 days worth of FP+ 30 days in advance, which has worked just fine for us But with the AP we will only get seven days worth of FP+? Meaning we won't be able to us FP+ for some days. Is that correct? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Second, if we have all our FP+ arrangements made for our May trip (for 9 days), will we loose those if we upgrade to APS on the first day of the trip? Or will the FP+ we made before we had the APs still be there? Does that make sense?

Sorry to sound so confused. I'm not a newbie, I promise. Lol. We've been to WDW more than 25 times in the last 15 years. But, the combination of FP+ and AP has me a little confused.

As soon as you use one day you can book another. It sucks especially for SDMT and TSMM so be sure to do those in the first 7 days.

Ah! Thank you! Ok. That's what I was wondering. That makes much more sense. So, it's kind of a "rolling seven days"? Like, we would use the first day, and then make them for the 8th day....use the second day and make them for the 9th day, and so forth? Is that right?

We aren't really SDMT or TSMM people anyway, lol. Once each trip on those is enough for us. So that's not a huge deal. We are more Space Mountain and Tower of Terror people.

That leaves my second question. If we have more than seven days worth already scheduled, and then switch to an AP that first day, will we lose them?

We will be onsite for the upcoming trip in May, then probably off site for two to three weeks in January.

If you're onsite on the first visit, you won't be affected. Your AP allows you a rolling 7 days worth of FP OR length of onsite stay, whichever is longer. If you do stay offsite on the early trip, perhaps you could wait until a couple days in to upgrade to the AP? (Not sure it's necessary, but I'd hesitate to do anything that would screw up my carefully selected FPs)

Thanks. That's pretty much what I was thinking.

We upgraded to APs during our November trip. It didn't cause any issues with our prebooked FPs at all.

Thanks. Just curious. Did you have more than seven days of FPs booked when you upgraded? Because that's where I got concerned. If I have like nine days of FP booked and switch to the AP, which only allows seven days of FP to be booked at a time, I was worried I might lose the last two days or something.

Thanks to everyone for all the info!

If you're staying onsite, it doesn't matter at all. You get length of stay FPs, even with APs. We've had more than 7 days booked at one time with APs and never had an issue.

Thank you. That's what I wasn't quite getting. I appreciate the help!

One last question. Can i upgrade to the Platinum Plus Annual Pass at the resort concierge desk, or does that have to be done at a park? Thanks!

The issue we had with APs and FP+ is that we had two trips booked within 60 days of each other. Even though we were booked for onsite stays for both trips, we could not make our April FP+ until we had used our February FP+ passes (at the end of each February day, we could add one more April day - kind of annoying when I would have liked to have made my April FP+ arrangements at one time and prior to our February trip). We were a little disadvantaged because we could not book our April FP+ at 60 days. We were still able to get most of what we wanted, but the times for a few attractions were not the ones we really wanted, and we had to divide up our party for the A&E meet and greet.

Not a big deal, but I think that if we have onsite reservations we should be able to make length of stay FP+ ressies, regardless of how close our trips are in time.

Did you try and contact Disney directly and ask if they could help you? (I'm not saying that they would, I'm just wondering...) I just purchased annual passes for my family last night. We have a 10 day trip booked for June and we are going back fairly quickly after that but we are unsure of our dates.
I agree that it would be a huge disadvantage not being able to book fast passes at 60 days, especially if you are paying to stay onsite. (We will be onsite for both trips.)

Has anyone else experienced this?

I went to guest services when MDE would not let me book our April FP+. Kept telling me we had booked the maximum number of fastpasses. The CM told me that AP holders can only book up to 7 FP+ days at any one time. He made it seem as if that were true even you booked a 10 day reservation at resort, but obviously, other people have had different experiences with this. I can't say for certain that there is nothing a CM can do about it, but I can say for certain that the MDE system would not let us book more than 7 days of FPs at a time.

Nothing in regard to AP can be handled at any of the resorts.

APs must be dealt with at Guest Relations, Ticket Booths, or Will Call windows at the parks, or at TTC, or at DS/DTD.

Very weird. We have also and I have 9 days of FPs booked now. We have an 8 night stay, and you also can book for the day you check out. I tried to add a 10th day of FPs, but the system told me I had reached my maximum. It seems to be working as it should for me.

Wait.
You say that you "went to" Guest Services.
Does that mean you were AT WDW when you tried to book the April FP+.
If so, where were you staying, and how many FP+ had you booked for THAT stay?

My April FP+ window for April opened Feb. 3rd. I already had 6 days of our FP+ booked for our week of Feb. 14th trip.

On Feb. 3rd, I was allowed to book one day of FP+ for our April trip. I could not book any more FP+. The system said I already had reached the limit.

I could not book any more FP+ for April because I already had 7 days of FP+ (6 days in Feb., 1 day in April).

We arrived at WDW (Pop Century- 5 night stay) on Feb. 14th and went to AK. While I was there, I went to guest services at AK to ask them why I could not book our FP+ for April (split stay at Yacht Club and Boardwalk- 6 night stay). He told me that since I already had FP+ booked for 7 days, I could not book any more for April, even though I was staying onsite for both trips. He said I would be able to book another day in April as soon as I had used up a day of FP+ in February. We used all three of our FP+ at AK that night and I immediately booked our FP+ for another day in April. After we used our FP+ on Monday, Feb. 15th, I immediately booked another day of FP+ for our April trip. And so on for the rest of the week. Make sense?

It is only an issue if an AP holder has two trips and one of them falls within the FP+ window of another. I realize that I am extremely fortunate to be able to take two trips within 60 days of each other, so I didn't complain much. It does seem that it puts AP holders at a disadvantage.
