Any suggestions?
A few.
I don't have all the reasons, because I don't have the exact details of every ticket deal, but it just seems the line always gets stuck, and it takes the ticket person a few minutes to resolve an issue.
Whenever we go, I stand in one line, while the wife stands in another.
Last year when my dad and I went, same thing. I stood in 1 line, him another. Both lines got stuck because the machines had problems, and we moved over until we finally found one that was moving.
So obviously something is wrong if I'm standing in a line and predicting problems everytime I walk up to the gate.
Yet, this never happens at SWF. Why don't they have these problems?
I'm sitting here trying to think of how they do the 2nd day free ticket, because I've never done one, I have a season pass. I don't know if they make people sign them or not. Or is it that most people don't buy the 2nd day free ticket and try to give it to a friend. Or is it that it's a next day ticket, while the 3rd day at USF can be used later? I don't have all these details.
I realize signing the tickets is to stop people from selling the tickets to scalpers or pass them to friends.
I will say this, the ticket machines at USF and IOA seem to have problems scanning the tickets, or break down. Yet when I visit SWF, they hold the card under a bar code reader, it works, they say have a nice day. I've never seen a machine at SWF/BGT not scan my card on the first try.
I don't work for the park. If I did, I'd find out all the reasons the lines stop, and do something about it. A few minutes may not seem like a long time, but it adds up. Open more ticket lines. I'd rather have more ticket lines open, than those survey people just after entering the park. No wonder why people don't take the survey, they've waited to get into the park, and now you want them to stop and take a survey? If anything, do the survey outside the park as the people slowly move towards the gate, not inside.
Have you been to Sam's club lately? When the line is long, someone using a wireless scanner can scan the membership card, the items in the cart, and then it comes up when the person gets to the register. Do the same thing. Get a system that lets people go out into the line with wireless scanners to make sure the tickets are valid before they get to the turnstile. Have them sign their ticket just before the turnstile. What you have now is people blocking the line signing their ticket, plus the people getting their bag checked. Do that ouside the park just before the turnstile. At SWF, the bag checkers are before the turnstile, and they have a "no bag" line.
So in review.
The ticket machines break down and don't scan the cards on the first try.
Ticket takers spend too much time resolving issues.
Use the survey people to open more ticket lines.
Have a manager find out why the line stops and make better ways to resolve those issues.
Have people with wireless scanners check tickets before the people get to the gate.
Put the baggage check on the outside of the park, even if that means rebulding the ticket area so they have room.
