Annual Income ?

I've been trying to get on the website to see the rates for ObamaCare. In the meantime, I used the Kaiser subsidy calculator to guesstimate what I may find.

One of the questions is what is your annual income?

Seems simple, right? Not so much! What if you are unemployed? I have no idea what my income will be in 2014. In 2013, I received unemployment for 26 weeks. I pulled some money from my 401k last month. Does that count? For 2012, I have my tax return, so I know my income from 2012.

What figure do they want?

Well I looked at the plans. I'll be no better off, and maybe worse off with the exchange plans than the I am now with my expensive HMO plan. The premiums are slightly lower, but if I take deductibles and the % that I will have to pay after the deductible into account, the exchange plans are actually higher. :(

Is there a reason you feel compelled to come into this post and say the same (unhelpful) thing every 10 minutes?

Some posters are having issues with posts double and triple posting, through no fault of their own. It is the board.

Most people however, don't hit their deductible in a year. Some people require more health care than others. In absence of a "all your health care is paid for" system - such as universal health care, which we tried to get but wasn't politically palatable - those who need more health care pay more in insurance and deductibles.

The exchanges won't be the best solution for everyone - but they will provide a solution for a lot of people for whom any insurance was previously out of reach.

I have a question about what size my family is considered.

My older adult children(22,20) are still covered under my husband's insurance. One lives and home and one lives on her own. A 14 year old still lives at home. I don't think I can claim either one on my income taxes.

So assuming I'm still supplying my older children's insurance Are we considered a family of 3 or 5 for the exchange/subsidy purposes?

It would really stink if I have to pay for a family of 5, but wouldn't be eligible for the subsidy because we'd be considered a family of 3.

We're the definition of "middle class" and right on the cusp of being eligible depending on what our family size is.

I already edited my post, because I answered on the wrong thread. Sorry, I'm only human and I do make mistakes.

As for the multiple posts, I've been having trouble for the last couple weeks where my replies post multiple times for no apparent reason. I have NO IDEA why and dont' know what to do about it. Sorry to be so troublesome.
:confused3

Thank you. I WISH I knew why it double and triple posts, and I wish there were something I could do...it's intermittent and annoying, but not my fault (at least I don't think so).
