Okay, one more question (sorry ....!)
I got another email back from Direct Travel today - response from another query
My trip is package. As far as I know I should then be covered for knock on effects, so for example if there was a delay departing the UK for 2 days, then the Insured should be able to claim back for the unused but prepaid hotel, etc.
Anyway, this was the paragraph where they responded to the above query:
So do I understand correctly that I would then approach Virgin Atlantic/Disney UK as appropriate in the first instance, as appropriate?
It is important to me that I understand who to contact and when in the unlikely event that I require assistance.
Thank you for your patience with me. I am usually not so long-winded in making a decision.

In the event of being stranded/severely delayed abroad you would be entitled to submit a claim for Delayed Departure, under Section 7 in our policy wording.
Our underwriters, Chartis UK Limited, will consider claims under section 7, Missed departure, and section 8, Delayed departure, for eventualities arising from the volcanic ash disruption. In regards to the knock on effects of the volcanic ash it would be down to the airline or tour operator you are travelling with to look at reimbursing you for the knock on effects.
