Annoyed at how much the "nice" Disney hotels cost

Can we please get back to the original topics?

Sure. Original topic was " Annoyed at how much the "nice" Disney hotels cost."

1. Why should they not cost more? In part that helps pay for the "nice" amenities and if they were less expensive then they wouldn't be as special.

2. Honestly, you can keep feeling sorry for yourself and complaining about what you don't have or you can be thankful for what you have and then you'll see that good things will come to you unbidden. So much is about attitude.

3. At age 28, I hadn't even been to WDW. Be thankful that you have been able to enjoy that.

4. Consider this book: Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy
by Sarah Ban Breathnach
I've found it to be a very positive influence on my life.

::yes::

Well, at 28 I had my first trip to WDW and I stayed off-site. And the only way I could afford to go on the three subsequent trips was off-site as well.

28 is young in my book. I started travelling when I started earning the money where I could make travel a priority. Before that my priority was my rent, car payments, student loans, food and clothing. When I reached my mid-30s, was well-established in a career, and had some disposable income I started really travelling in the manner I wanted to (nice hotels, nice restaurants, air travel) vs. the only way I could afford (camping, bringing my own food and driving everywhere regardless of the length it took to get there).

You are lucky that you can go...my parents didn't get to WDW until they were in their 60s. And I took them as a treat.

I have to agree here too.

Just a thought, but maybe you could turn some of your DIS time into a part time job. Then you could save that money and vacation they way you would like to.

I DIS when I am at work. 99% of the time at work I am sitting around doing nothing, because despite the fact that they have given me an additional extra full time positions worth of responsibility I finish it all fast and well. Hence my boss has pretty much given me the okay to just kick back until more work comes my way.

I leave my house at 6 am and get home around 6:30 PM. This makes finding a pt job very hard. I am willing to not have any weekend time, but the part time jobs i have applied for are looking primarily for weeknight help and working from 6 am to midnight might be a bit of a physical drain.

Since this thread has turned into a bash Esmeraldax financial situation thread instead of a light hearted discussion on money saving and the costs of the hotels, I am going to ask the mods to please close it down.

So mods, can you please close it down?

Thanks.

Typical DIS reply: "I don't like what you all have said so please close this topic."

No, if you will go back and re-read the OP and what the thread has become, you will see my reasoning behind asking it to be closed.

It has gone way off from what it was intended to be and despite numerous requests to go back to discussing hotel costs and money saving ideas, the snide comments and  from people keep on coming...and the topic seems to have shifted to "Esmeraldax complaining about her life" .

If you re-read the OP I stated that I AM grateful that I get to go to WDW. Many people can't. I just wished that WDW would lower some of the prices of the deluxe resorts. I got some great info from people about places to check for discounts, and in fact found out some stuff I did not know about ways to knock $100 off the cost of a room at places like AKL. I learned some info about the DVC (as did others!) I never knew.

I had hoped that the thread would continue as it was then, but clearly it is not and I think asking it to be shut down is perfectly reasonable. This was not meant to be a hard core debate. Maybe if people wanted to debate WHY certain hotels cost what they cost, fine, but IMO, that is a lighthearted debate.

But that is not where the debate headed.

Esmerelda -- use the "report this post to a mod" feature and let them know you'd like for it to be closed. As the OP, I believe that is your right. And I really can't say I blame you........the horse is long since dead already, imo.

I think if you will go back and read the original post, you'll find that Esmerelda was just musing....daydreaming about being able to afford it. She says she's grateful that she gets to go at all. She says she knows that some don't get to go at all. She's just daydreaming and wishing and asking if anyone else was on the same page and wanted to talk about it. There is no hint of whining.

I can understand how frustrating it must be just to want to chat about something she wishes could happen and get a complete analyisis of her life and spending patterns. I'd feel like not talking about it anymore, too.

We started out at the off site hotels….then graduated to the Disney moderate hotels. We started getting discount postcards from Disney with unbelievable saving’s on the deluxe hotels…so we started staying at the deluxe hotels. We were HOOKED!

Then the postcards stopped …coming of course now that we were HOOKED.

But thankfully my wife and I have very good jobs (knock on wood) and we have been able to keep up the deluxe stays.

To tell you the truth I often question why we stay there…we get up and are out by 8am and we are usually back in after 11pm.

The OP chose to make all of her financial information public. She's repeatedly posted her salary, rent, education, etc... on a message board with over 66,000 registered members. If you don't want these matters discussed, I would suggest you use a little more discretion as to what information you share.

Esmerelda,
I took your post for exactly what it was--experiencing sticker shock and then b*tching about it!! No big deal, we can all do that I think. I don't think you were looking for sympathy, pixie dust whatever. It's nothing more than what we'd say in a normal, everyday conversation.

Yes. I posted that info in a thread where I was seeking serious financial advice, and many people were kind enough to give me some great advice on the board and via PM & email.

If you had no advice, or were not interested in doing anything more than ridiculing me; why bother even reading the thread?

Again, asking mods to please close this thread. I'm not responding anymore.

Thank you all to everyone who helped, who got the point of the OP and esp. who pointed me to the mousesavers site. I will definately be going there a lot, as well as checking some nice off site places & the swan and dolphin!!

:)

If you read back, I did give you a little advice. However, it is probably not what you want to hear. :wave2:
