Announcing your resort stay on the back of your car

You do know that despite zuckerbergs claims and privacy policy, FB is not private, right???

If you post and your friend comments, friends of that friend can see it. I see junk (LOL, yes please, your dinner looks good, your kids are getting big) on posts of people I don’t know all the time because my friends comment on their friends posts.

This is not correct at all. I mean, maybe for some people it is, but you can easily change your settings so that friends of friends cannot see what your friends put on your wall (nor do you have to see what your friends are posting on their friends' walls.)

NO - privacy is best
Some one tracks your license plate number and breaks into your home while at WDW :(
At WDW someone thinks you have valuables in your car - not a good idea. Hubby is in law - he ditto's no outside decorations for the world to see

I don't understand what you're saying. Couldn't anyone at anytime track your license plate (I mean, I don't know how they would do it, but you make it sound like it happens)? How do you keep them from seeing your license plate in FL and you live in, say, Wisconsin? And then they see you in Orlando and so they make haste to Wisconsin to rob your house?

I've heard the argument that you shouldn't put on Facebook that you're going to be out of your home for extended periods. My question to that is - why have you chosen to be Facebook friends with people who you think may possibly break into your home??

Exactly!!!

you could put it on after you check out of layover hotel. We drive down from NC and usually stop, for the night, about 2-3 hours before Disney. We get up and head straight to Disney, no stops for meals just maybe a rest area potty stop and everyone at those are travelers and know you're a traveller too.

Except those people masquerading as travelers who are actually experts at the quick grab while actual travelers are doing their business...

Sorry, it is your understanding that is incorrect. I see it daily....

However, this is hardly worth an argument. If you want to post your life out where everybody can see it, you are welcome to do so. Many of us choose not to you. I prefer to err on the side of caution and keep my family safe. :goodvibes

zero chance...... my cars are cleaner then my home...... dont want to risk scratching the paint or windows....plus it just looks kind of hoosierish....just sayin

I would never in a million years thought of that, but it could happen. Wow!
I did make sure my youngest daughter kept every thing off of Facebook earlier this year when we went to the Grand Caymans, I will have to make sure her and her friend do the same in a couple weeks while at Disney.

But first they have to stop by Alabama to rob my house. Then hop a flight to Wisconsin.

COULD something happen because you put "Disney or Bust" on your car, or positioned stuffed animals looking out the window, sure.

But how likely is it? Probably not very. First someone would have to put your car with your house. Which means it would have to be a neighbor or someone sitting in your neighborhood watching you. (Most people don't have neighbors that are criminals. And if you do, you have more problems than them knowing that you are on vacation.) Or someone with the ability to look up your license plate. Which means law enforcement or someone with that authorization.

Then they would have to get to your house and break in, hoping that no one was home. Or possibly break into your car, if you leave it alone long enough. Of course, if you are parked at a rest stop, most there will be traveling somewhere. Same if you are parked at a hotel/resort. So your car wouldn't be any more of a target than any other car. For me, I drive a car that is 13 years old. It isn't a car people would want to steal, as it has no value.

If I'm being observed to this degree, they would have noticed by now that my house is likely empty every weekday from 7am-5pm.

Well, we are in a fairly small TN town with ding-dongs posting on local Facebook group (9K members) asking for pet sitters for specific dates and then get surprised that their house is later burgled during that same time. So ... yeah, there are things to do and not to do.

I used to decorate my car with those Wall Decals. Man it looked cool tooling down the road with all that stuff on the car. I got stopped around the neighborhood asked how I did it. I just a great big kid.

Not the same as the question that was asked, but I don't understand people who post pictures of themselves being on vacation DURING their vacation. You are screaming "hey...look...I'm not at home!!". The second time we went, my neighbor watched us pack our car. We were hoping he wouldn't be home. He's not the most trustworthy of neighbors. Well..low and behold...our shed was broken into. So we really try to keep it low key when we leave. And we now make sure someone is staying at our house.
Last time we traveled, our very shady looking newspaper boy was delivering next door as we were loading up the SUV with luggage. I thought about him the entire trip imagining him robbing our home, and waited for our alarm company to alert us. Fortunately that didn’t happen. It helps to have nosey neighbors that watch the house.

It is better to be safe and take precautions.:goodvibes:thumbsup2
You see them because it is a public post. My posts are set to friends only and those are the only people that see them, no matter who posts a comment.

You are correct. It is all about your settings and people obviously don't understand how they work. LOL

Well, in our case, even though we don't put anything on our car, they'd be in for quite a surprise to arrive at our house and find out it's not empty. Someone is still at the house. Believe it or not, one person, or even 2, in a home can be gone and others can be at home. Imagine that.
