Hi all.
I've been a regular at the DCL board, but unfortunately we have had to cxl our cruise. Fortunately we are now doing 5 days at the parks!

I booked with Free Dining and I am stoked!

Our first night we will be at MK and its our wedding anniversary! (6 years)
We will have our 18yo and our 2yo with us.

Any good recommendations for a special dinner that night? I'm already inside 180 days so I'm trying to book dining asap.

Ohana has no availability during our trip for breakfast so I'll already be checking dining every morning until 11/14 anyway LOL.

I've never done the dining plan so I'm new to its nuances. I'll be reading the DIS pages about it today!

In MK I think that the most "special" restaurant is BOG but that will be very difficult to get at this point. The atmosphere and theming are great. The food was ok for me, and Beast is available at dinner. Check every day, though.

In the MK area I like the California Grill for a special dinner. If you make your ADR near fireworks time you can go out on the observation deck and watch. CG is a signature restaurant and would be 2 DDP credits.

I would definitely say California Grill during the fireworks if there's any way you can swing that. It is a hard reservation to get.

Where is California Grill?

I made ADRs Where I could d nd availability, we are traveling mid November so there wasn't a lot.. MVMCP is happening that week so reservations were scarce.

Due to MVMCP and EMH, we swapped MK with HS for our first day. (Wow that's a lot of abbreviations!)

Anyway for now we have a reservation at Mama Melrose for 845, just before fireworks at HS.
This isn't a listed fireworks-dine, but I think we will wrap up just around firework time and at least be near a good viewing area.
Thoughts on this?

My choices in order are Victoria & Albert's (GF), California Grill (at the Contemporary), Narcoossees (GF), Citrico's (GF). Personally I'd charge the 18 y/o with the toddler during that time. Those would be my choices even if I had to do a different day than the actual anniversary.

Normally there aren't fireworks at HS except special occasions. This summer there is the Frozen fireworks but I don't think we know if that will continue past the summer. Do you mean Fantasmic? If so, Fantasmic is at 6:30 almost every night in November.

Never mind, fantastic is scheduled for 645. Dinner at 715.
Am I going to be able to take in both?
I haven't been to HS in years, not familiar with fantasmic at all. Are they near each other?

Fantasmic is a show that lasts about 30 min. And MM is on the other side of the park, by muppets 3D exit. The Hollywood hills amphitheater where Fantasmic is shown is over by tower of terror. Considering the max exodus from the theater after the show and the walk, you probably won't make it to MM within your 15 min grace period after your ADR. I would try for a 7:45 dinner to be safe

In that case we may skip Fantasmic... I've been reading about it since I posted.

The long wait to get a good seat Is definitely a drawback and we will have a toddler with us so he may be scared anyway.

Maybe I'll try to see Muppets 3d before dinner? :)

Also, Osborne Lights will be going on in your time frame, as they start around Nov 7th. They are absolutely beautiful, and in streets of America which is close to MM so you could easily see them before (they start at 6 or 6:30 I think) or after dinner as they are on an hour after park closing. You also can squeeze in seeing muppets as well!
