We'll be visiting DLR for our anniversary next year, per usual, and I was planning on Steakhouse 55 for an anniversary dinner on our arrival day. Since it's permanently closed (uncontrollable weeping noises here), what would be your next choice? We've eaten at Ralph Brennan's a couple of times before and Naples last year, but would maybe like to try something different. It would have to be outside the parks because it won't be a park day, also.

We went to Napa Rose last week and it was delicious as ever, amazing service and food.

Ah yes, I've always seen people say great things about it! Any dishes in particular that stand out as favorites?
Last night, we got the Duck and the Filet, both were wonderful. But the menu online is different than the menu at the restaurant.

But if you like filet mignon and would like to try something outside the Resort, I would suggest The Ranch Restaurant on Ball Road and The Cellar Restaurant at Downtown Fullerton.

We celebrated my son's birthday at the $$$$$$$$$$ Ranch $$$$$$$$$ Food was delicious there.

For a steakhouse, I second the nearby Ranch Restaurant & Saloon....don't worry, it is not saloony at all...it's very nice!

On property, there is no other choice than Napa Rose in the Grand CA hotel. Of the two, it just depends on cuisine choice.

What is the Chef's Counter experience like?
You are seated at a counter in front of the open kitchen. Unless it’s changed a lot, there are like 4 seats in to the left (appetizer side, I think?) 4 seats right in front of the main action (I seem to remember these are barstool height? I could be wrong) and I think 4 more to the right. Then the counter takes a turn along the right side and there’s 4-6 more seats in front of the patisserie area. You have your own waiter, but you also get special attention from the head chef. He/she will come over and ask each of you about likes and dislikes, allergies, preferences, etc. taking notes. Then they will bring you a tasting menu of small, exquisite courses. I can’t remember how many, but I looked back at my pics from 2019 and I think it was at least 5. They used to be more individual, but I think in the last few years you’ll get one of a few items they’re doing for each course- when our party of 6 went, we generally received 2 of each item- i.e. DD 24 and I would get the scallop, while DH and DD 17 got the glazed riblet, and DSIL and DD21 got the duck confit, etc
The chefs working in front of you will often interact with you. They’ll answer questions, tell you about what they’re making, show you stuff before they send it out. Sometimes they’ll give you a taste. I’ve had mostly wonderful interactions at my 4 times there. Couple of duds, too.
Fair warning: if you are not accustomed to fine dining, tasting menus, etc, you may think this is a ripoff. It’s very expensive, and the tasting portions are small, although by the time you’re finished you will probably be quite full. But if your idea of a great meal is a huge burger and a blooming onion, this isn’t for you.
Imma throw a few pics in from our last time. We had such a good time!

Thank you so much for the detailed description! Good-looking family you've got there, too! This seems like something I'd probably like, but I'm unsure about my husband, so I'll have to see what he thinks about it.
