Just my hubby and I are going for our 10 year to Alaska. Was curious if we could sit alone or if we would be assigned to a group? Also, if a group do you guy generally like to sit with another couple or a larger group for more conversation opportunities?

My husband and I cruise regularly with DCL as a couple, when I make my reservation for the cruise I always asked for a table for 2.
In 7 solo cruises we have alway been granted our request and received our own table.
But they will tell you it's just a request, not a guarantee.
When we travel with our kids and grandkids we are 8 and I also make sure that we are seated at an 8 top as a family.

Have a wonderful anniversary!

From everything I have read, you have a better chance if you have second seating (not sure if you have that.) My husband and I had second seating on our first Disney cruise, requested a private table, and were granted it. But it all depends on availability. I have also read that if you are sailing concierge and request a private table that you are pretty much guaranteed it.

Alaska is absolutely beautiful. Hope you have a wonderful anniversary!

We've been on three other Disney cruises (first seating), and have always asked and been granted our request for our own table.

We have requested it for our cruise this Fall and are hoping we get it.

I hope it works out for you. :wave2:

We are going on our first cruise next year. Our party make up is myself, husband, and 4 yr old son. This is a "newbie" question. From the comments am I to understand that you are seated with others on a Disney Cruise for dining? Thanks in advance for answering.

Go to palo for a nice couples dining experience. I've never requested a table for two, and we've been seated with other couples. On our honeymoon we sat with another honeymooning couple which was awesome. You can request it, but we kinda take that as part of the experience. I would def go to Palo one night!

If you are a smaller party, and do not request a private table, then there is a good chance you will be seated with others. This is typical of cruise lines in general, not just DCL.

There are 4 top tables so you may get one of those for the 3 of you, but generally small groups are seated with other small groups.

We will be taking our 2nd cruise and I would never ask for a private table. We love meeting new people. Our table mates for our 1st cruise had a DD our DD's age, 3 and they had such a great time together. They also had an older 21 yo DD who was with them. We also have much older kids too. It gave us so much to talk about and a great playmate for DD.

We always ask for our own table after the first cruise. We did not like having to be "on" during the meal if you will, were much younger than our tablemates, and much prefer to just relax and talk as little or as much as we like about things they would not find interesting. Of the four next cruises we were on one could not be accommodated on without moving to second seating which we did not want to do. We did not get along with the other couple at all on that cruise, though we were successful in holding our tongues - probably because it was only a three night. Very different leanings in every imaginable way (left vs. right politically, we are not religious, they were very judgmental that we do not choose to have kids, very gun friendly where we are not). We will not hesitate to move to second dining or any dining if we are asked to seat with others again.

If we DID have kids, perhaps we would feel very differently since they might benefit from meeting others their own age, and give us a bit of respite. ;) Frankly though, my husband is my most favorite person in the whole world, and we love having time together on our own. One or even two Palos wouldn't be enough.

I can fully understand not wanting to be "on" at meal times.

One of the things we like about cruising is the ability to meet other people who have at least one thing in common with you - they probably like Disney and cruising.

We've had some OK dining companions and some who we got along with really well and with whom we still trade occasional e-mails. Once we ended up seated with a couple we'd sat with the previous year whose company we really enjoyed (no planning - just coincidence that we booked at the same time - they are FL residents and did a last minute booking).

This July we are cruising with another couple and two brothers who we sat with in 2013. We had corresponded with the couple off and on and both of us had thought about the Northern European cruise so when we both knew that we were going, we arranged to be seated together. Then the two brothers with whom both of us occasionally corresponded decided to go as well, so we arranged for them to join us at dinner. So now we're not dining with strangers.
