Anniversary cake @ Cali Grill? Other celebration ideas?

This is a mixed restaurant/resort question, hope this is an okay spot to post it.

DH and I (oh, and the littlest one ;) ) will be having an anniversary dinner at California Grill in September. Always thought I would order a cake to surprise DH but then I realized a couple things: we might want to order CG's desserts and we won't want to cart the extra cake around if we decide to go elsewhere on our date.

So, I am wondering if I could have a cake delivered to our room? A dining CM gave me the bakery number but I haven't called yet. Will the bakery deliver there or only to restaurants - does anyone know? If they do, do we have to be in the room to accept delivery or do they leave it at the front desk?

If they do not deliver to rooms, is there another option for getting a sweet surprise delivered to the room (other than room service, I guess!)?

I want to have a something unexpectedly nice happen for DH that day - would it be worthwhile to have it noted on our ADR/tell CG when we arrive? I am not looking for free stuff, I am perfectly willing to pay for it and I am not even sure what I am looking for, if we didn't do a cake there, just something to make him smile. I am betting that something simple like getting a window seat for Wishes - our ADR time is supposedly a good time to experience Wishes from CG - would be a good option, so would noting on our ADR it was our anniversary give us an edge (LOL)?

I guess I am trolling for ideas more than anything. :teeth: How did you make your anniversary at Disney memorable (um, the G rated version, of course)?

When my DH and I were at the Contemporary for our Honeymoon, we got Chocolate Covered Strawberries and a white chocolate mickey delivered to our room as a surprise. I think my DMIL called the hotel to arrange for it, and they told her who she could call. They were really yummy, and the chocolate mickey was super cool!! That would be a fun idea, and G Rated!!

Aw, that would be awesome. What a nice MIL! I wonder if the bakery is the place that provides these? Guess I need to call and find out myself! Thanks for responding.

We celebrated our anniversary at CG this January with our grown children and DIL. They had purchased champagne flutes and had them engraved. They ordered champagne for us at the CG and we were served with the new flutes. Our server also surprised us with a slice of delicious chocolate cake with anninversary wishes written on the plate.

It was a magical night in so many ways. We asked for the Wine room and were warned there was a family celebrating in there. We didn't mind that at all and in fact enjoyed seeing an extended family together. The Grandfather sent our server over with an offer of a drink on them which we didn't accept since it was such a delight seeing them and they weren't disturbing us at all. Then we received the surprise from our kids and the cake. Finally a gentleman who had met our daughter on the elevator bought our daughter's dessert. So much pixie dust flying that night. pixiedust:

Enjoy your anniversary celebration. :sunny:

I think that the Disney bakery would probably be able to do something for you, and have it taken to the restaurant or your room--and they can do so many things! They have so many different flavors, designs, and options--they can even do minicakes which will serve 1 person--you could get two, one for you both! :) If you can't find anything on this board, ask around on the weddings board--the girls there know just about everything there is to know about the catering staff at Disney.

Thanks so much for the tip about the wedding board! I called Disney but haven't had much luck. The number dining gave me was for the Contemporary private dining who said they would do a cake to deliver to CG or to a room at the CR ... he didn't know if we could get something delivered to WL and transferred me to the front desk. I explained and she said I will transfer you to the person you need to speak with ... and I went right back to the CR private dining guy I had just spoken to. He was very nice but didn't know about anything except his own area. I gave up for right now!
