We have a timeshare on Longboat Key. Mote marine is a must! Also check out Rod & Reel. That is our traditional first night dinner place on our arrival day. Hope weather warms up for you, we will be there the first week of may.
We usually don't to much touristy thing, just do the beach thing all day and out for dinner and back on the beach again for sunset. You will love, love, love the beach there.
