Can anyone share pictures or experiences for this? My 11 year old is crazy excited so I said I would ask lol

I just went to Google, chose the "images" search and typed in Animation Academy and there are a good amount of pictures that show the event itself as well as sketches.

This was my attempt at Donald last weekend!

Thanks! I was pretty proud of myself! I'm no artist!!

It's a fun little "class" where you sit down and they give you pencil and paper and teach you how to draw one character. If you go back again later it's usually a different character, but you don't get to choose. My family really enjoys AA -- we've learned to draw Piglet, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and a few others. :goodvibes

I took a class the last time I was there and drew Oswald. I always shied away from this attraction because I'm no artist, but my partner finally convinced me and I had a blast!! When I go back at the end of this month, I will definitely be doing this again.

The show lasts 15-20 minutes depending on the character. Also, sometimes they might show a preview of a new Disney movie if they're promoting one. After the show you can go to Off the Page and get a rubber band for your picture if you want to keep it.

That is such an awesome drawing !! I'm impressed and maybe I should check this out too.:thumbsup2

Hopefully this is a judge free zone. Here is my attempt at Sparky, and I know that his bolt is rather long, I realized that when I looked at everyone else's drawings at the end (they have you hold up your picture for others to see)
I might also add there are no erasers on the pencils!

We were there a week ago and classes started at 11:00 and every 30 minutes there was a new class. My dd 11 loved it. We would go into one class come out wait and go back into the next one 10 minutes later. It was never full and there was plenty of room in each class. It might have been my DD's favorite thing to do at DCA. Really the whole family love it. The schedule is posted out front and they start the first class each day with Mickey. The evening classes were more scary characters like Jack Skeleton and earlier ones were Donald, Goofy, Pluto, etc.

Wow -- I didn't know that the evening classes had scarier characters -- we always go in the middle of the day or late morning when it starts -- thanks for the info! :goodvibes

DD7 and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Animation Academy! I've seen characters like Jack on the schedule during the day too. If we could just catch a Stitch class DD would be over the moon!

The teacher also gives away their drawing, usually to someone in the first couple of rows with a birthday button or some such.

The schedule is posted on a board outside the entrance each day.

Here's our plutos from jan (DD7 on the left, me on the right)

I went once with my boys (aged 10 and 6 at the time, I believe.) While the 6yo was a tad bored, all three of our drawings (of Jack Skellington) turned out recognizable.

Pretty cool, and I would definitely do it again. :)

Do you think an art inclined 4 yr old would do ok? If we have time it might be fun to see what she can do.

Maybe. Does she get frustrated easily? The teachers do tend to move fairly quickly...my art inclined 7yr old loves it but does get frustrated sometimes when she gets behind. It might help if your DD is already familiar with the shape building/reference line style of sketching or drawing as this is how they teach. You can still see some of the shapes and reference lines in our pluto drawings. My DD was a little confused by this style and was frustrated at first because she made her initial shapes and lines too dark. But now that she understands the style a little more she does better.

Its short enough that its worth trying UNLESS your DD is likely to get very upset/frustrated if it doesn't come out like she hopes or she gets behind.

We love Animation Academy. I can't draw at ALL and when I attend Animation Academy, my characters always turn out recognizable at a minimum, if not even better.
