Animation Academy at Quest

We have visited Quest every year for the past few years. My teenagers love it. We go with the expectation that a lot of the games won't be working and that it is getting run down, so we know what we're getting. In spite of that there are enough things that they really enjoy so it's always been well worth it. We have never done the Animation Academy. A few questions:
1. Have we been missing out on something cool?
2. Can anyone comment on the cost of the print outs or toys?
3. How long does it take to participate in these?
Thanks!

I think that depends on your personal interest in art/drawing. We did it once. My answer to your questions:

1. No. It was boring, in fact we left about 10 minutes in
2. No, see my answer to number 1
3. I think it's something like 30 minutes, but again, refer to answer 1

However, that's just me...and my wife and kids. We're not artists, except for my daughter who does like it. Even she was bored after a little. If you're into art, you may really enjoy it.

My dh was the only one in our family that liked animation academy. Ds and I would either make a song or a coaster while he did that. I think it took 15 to 30 minutes. We never bought a picture. We did buy a couple songs but that was ages ago and I'm sure prices have increased.

My daughter is an artist and loves to draw. She loves Animation Academy so we always have to stop in there. Thankfully she is old enough now to do it on her own. DH and I usually go play old school games while she is doing that. It takes 30 mins total.

It's one of my kids and Dh favorite things to do at quest. I personally take the 30 minutes to go play Burger Time with not one bothering me! ;)

We all had fun. Especially now that the (not digital) one in DHS is gone. We did not buy printout, but I did take pix of everyone as they were doing it and got a nice pose of each kid with their finished work. Now that they are older, they have fun busting on each other for their attempt at art when we look back at the pix. These are the memories that a good WDW vacation has.

Is this like the old one in DHS or is this something different?

The one in Disney Quest is a digital photo instead of drawing with a pencil. In 2012 we did the DHS one so DD and I did the digital photos at Disney Quest in 2013. We enjoyed it - I bought the printout of my picture, she wasn't happy with hers so she didn't buy it.

The DQ version is like using the 'paint' program on the computer. Much harder to control, can't fix errors and not like using a pencil where pressure can help your shading. And they can charge you for a printout. Welcome to the digital age...

We felt the opposite. DQ was much easier to correct with the eraser mode and it was a clean erase without residue or lead left behind. DS is disabled and at DQ he did some great work whereas at DHS it was very difficult to keep up, draw and make corrections.

We loved it at DQ and was a must each visit, sometimes more than once. My kids have a full collection of the pins they could get as they finished each character.

It also depends on who you get as the instructor , too. If you get a CM who is passionate about animation, it can be fun.

TOTALLY the truth. It never failed over the years we often got the same guy. He always acted like it pained him to be there and we were his punishment for something. I never understood why he didn't move on.

We went to DQ in July and October and enjoyed both times. In July, they were giving out free printouts and the two classes we attended were full. Classes are about 30 minutes.

On October, we attended two classes and there were only 3-5 people each time. No more printouts, we were told to take a picture with of our drawing with a smartphone. Very true that your experience depends on the instructor. One of the sessions we had an instructor who rushed us through the steps and didn't bother showing a slideshow at the end with everyone's drawings (usually pretty fun to see how everyone else's came out).
