Here's my current first time @ FW question/ concern...animals & food. I was talking to my brother today & he asked if we were bringing food (since were on the ddp). He wanted to make sure that I was planning on putting cooler & any other food we might have in the car, at least at night. He didn't want anything to get into it. It's happened to him elsewhere. :lmao: But I've seen refrigerators & coolers in the pics posted here. So I'm curious, what does everyone else do? Have you had any animal problems?

Hey terri, we're just tracking right along with each other tonight aren't we??

StepInTime, we also had a bag of chips literally ripped open by birds from a food box, and some granola eaten off the table. I would put stuff like that in a closed plastic or metal box when you're away. Our fridge and coolers weren't bothered. I can't imagine anything happening to those.

I put food, coolers, and anything else I don't want bothered or rained on during the night in the trunk of my car. I back into the space and just leave the trunk lid open to access my items when needed. The only thing you'll need to watch is the trunk light (I've burned through some things I'd rather not have) for heat and the car battery-disconnect it if the lids open long:)

Not unless there is beer in there!! I have heard of kids stealing coolers to get the beer!!!! You know teenagers are part animal...right??

We've never had an animal at the Fort get into our fridge or cooler. But, when we close the cooler, we usually put something on top of it to keep the lid down.

We did have some kids steal our cooler one day, and a CM found it floating in the canal the next day (empty). He brought it back to us, and said he figured it was kids, looking for beer. That was many years ago though. No problems since then! :goodvibes

I've never had any problems at FtW with animals or teens stealing anything - even when we tent camped. Come to think of it, I've never seen a raccoon at FtW in all the years we've camped there.

Animals/birds I've seen at FtW include... rabbits, armadillos, owls, bald eagles, sea gulls, buzzards, gators, deer, turkeys, otters, peacocks, egrets, robins, cardinals, blue jays, wrens, sparrows, grackles, bobcats, otters, herons, ferel cats, squirrels, roosters (in the 70's they had roosters wandering around FtW), lots of fish, Minnie Moo, ponies, horses, goats, pot bellied pigs, white-skinned two legged creatures donned in sock & sandals who turned into red-skinned two legged creatures by the end of day one.... but never any raccoons!! Where are the raccoons???

Now... in days gone by... the peacocks were known to steal beer from the otters!! There's always a war raging between the peacocks and otters!

Debbie- Adding to your list- you forgot woodpeckers, hawks, and those two big chipmunks that are always hanging around at the campfire!

I also have never seen a raccoon at the Fort. Those are the critters that steal your food. At another campground that I have camped at here in Florida, the raccoons open coolers, and will even try to get into your RV to get to your food.

I have never had a problem with a critter or teenager taking anything from me a the Fort.

If you don't lock up your beer the otters will steal it!

No skunks? I've never seen one at FW, but you never know. There was one on AI this year!

As long as you don't leave anything out in the open laying around, I wouldn't worry about it.

Your main problem would be squirrels and birds, and the occasional mosquito ;)
