Here's the latest word on the animal acclimation.

As the development of Kidani Village continues at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, crews are preparing to complete the new savanna and acclimate the animals to their new habitat.

To accommodate this important process, animals are not scheduled to be on Sunset Savanna through March 24, 2009 (earlier than the original projected date of April 15, 2009). As a reminder, Members and Guests who reserve a savanna-view room during this time will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings include a notation to that affect.

Approximately 30 days prior to arrival, the resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna view room. Affected Members will be notified, and after their stay, will receive a Vacation Point credit reflecting the difference between a savanna view and standard view (no additional compensation will be given).

If this process is not acceptable to you, please consider alternate stay dates or resorts. Also remember that animals on the other savannas can be viewed from multiple public locations at the resort.

Edit: There is a report, see the reply to this post below, that the sunset savanna is now open!

Where did you find this information? We check in March 24 and have a dedicated studio with a Savanna View, but have worried about "getting the call". Thanks so much for posting this - you made my day!!!

That's good news. We'll be there on April 19. I was concerned they might extend the closing.

Maybe they put the animals on downers. :drinking1 :drinking1 :hippie: :dance3: :drinking1 :rockband: pixiedust: DISNEY MAGIC!?!:hippie: :dance3: :rockband: pixiedust: :drinking1

It's in the 'News' section of the member's website. Glad to be of assistance.

Darn. We're in concierge March 17-21 at AKV and I was hoping for the critters to be back by then. Oh well, looks like it was good timing for concierge when savanna view isn't guaranteed anyway.

What animals are going to be on the Sunset Savannah? We're staying AKV concierge in June in a 2BR - Before we always requested a 5th floor room when staying concierge but it is my understanding that only 4th & 6th floors are DVC and 6th floor only for concierge - so am curious as to what animals are on this savannah.

Male Giraffe, Bongo, Impala, Thompsons Gazelles, Ostrich, Ankole Cattle, Waterbuck, African crown cranes, stork and blue cranes. This according to one website. I am pretty sure that zebras can only be found on the Arusha savanna.

We are just about to leave (stayed March 10-15th) and I wanted to report that the Sunset savanna is reopened! I had gotten the call, and we got in really late the 10th, and didn't expect to see anything the 11th, so I don't know if there were animals as early as then, but certainly on the 12th there were. We've seen giraffe, zebra (in a trio usually), ostrich, eland, crowned cranes, etc...we were very excited!

I asked one of the guides downstairs and she said they didn't want to disappoint, so they were cautious and overestimated how long it would take.

So if you have sunset savanna and are about to go, enjoy! :)

That's great news about sunset savanna! Looks like I was wrong about zebras only being on the arusha savanna.

I was hoping that would be the answer. Yay! We check in on March 17 so now I hope that we have a savanna view in AKV concierge.

I am thrilled that zebras are on Sunset now - that was always the main reason we requested Arusha - to see the zebra's.

The DVC rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors. As you stated, the Concierge rooms are on the 6th floor only so your view will be either the pool area or the Sunset Savanna.

We checked into AKV concierge on 3/6 and the animals were on the Savannah then...we did the Wanyama Safari that night.

In fact, I had forgotten they were supposed to be gone.

When we did the Sunrise Safari in Feb 2008, the curator of AKL told us the animals would only be off the savannah for a short period.

I know they can't guarantee views on Concierge level - but we have a two bedroom booked and there are more 2BR's on the savannah side than the pool view side - so am keeping my fingers crossed :thumbsup2

Last year we were able to request the 5th floor in order to get a savanah view with concierge priveleges but they won't do that anymore.

Thanks

We scrambled trying to find a new place to stay approx. 3 months ago. We were told that the animals would not be there during our stay March 23- Apr 2. We found a new 2 bedroom at the Beach Club. But how I could kick myself now.

Just returned yesterday (Sunday, March 15th) - animals were on the Sunset Savannah when we arrived (Tuesday, March 10th). We took the Sunset Safari and saw many. many animals and drove around/past the new building.

We were there at the same time! Our stay was the 6th-13th.

Did you enjoy the Wanyama Safari?
