Animal Kingdom Refurbishment 2025

It looks like 8/30/25 is blocked off from all studio room types. I doubt it has to do with a refurb since it is only one day but maybe? And if not, any ideas on why this is?

We aren't really allowed to talk about availability so I am removing it from the quote, but I see standard/savanna studios available at both Kidani and Jambo that day.

We can’t talk about it in terms of an anomaly suggesting maintenance etc?

I’m not sure, when I search at Jambo that date is white rather than blue even though the days preceding it are blue.

ETA kidani is also showing this night as unavailable on the calendar for studios.

So, I think there is a bug on the DVC site right now. I have a date toward the end of July that shows as "white" however it appears it would let me book it if I had an AKV contract. If I have it selected it says "continue" instead of "waitlist". In fact this date shows as "white" on all resorts even at Saratoga, which we own at, and it would allow me to book.

ETA: Using the Developer Tools in Chrome I can see that it clearly shows "0" rooms available even though the night before and after each have 160. And it would let me book. Definitely a bug and I can see this leading to some serious overbooking issues.

There is a system problem that actually started yesterday evening that affected every room in every DVC Resort at WDW. One thing it was doing was showing no availability for Aug 30, 31, and Sep 1. That has apparently been partly fixed for those dates but Aug 30 is still an issue.

I'm seeing the issue on July 30.

I think it's an issue on the 30th of every (or nearly...) month that has 31 days.

The dates are bookable if the dates are pre-selected from your search, but adjusting the dates selected breaks it.

I believe you are correct, that takes some special IT work to break something in that manner......

ETA: I was able to get somebody on chat to understand the issue. They've put a ticket in for it to be fixed.

I just had to cancel an AKV reservation due to the hurricane. I’m thinking of rescheduling for April next year. Is there any way the refurbishment will start by then?

We’ve had no news on when they’ll start the refurb.
Sorry that Milton has upended your plans.

Permits could be for anything of course, but FWIW, a Notice of Commencement permit was filed Friday with a Kidani address. The contractor is Barton Marlow Company and it expires 12/31/2025 (slightly longer than the standard year for most permits).

Again, FWIW!

Fingers crossed, because the 7yr schedule is long overdue for AKL. Maybe they're waiting until the December association meeting to announce.

So I know we don’t talk about availability here but let’s just say a bunch of availability just showed up for a highly sought after room type at Jambo house… is it possible they were holding back rooms for the refurb and released them?

We’re allowed to talk about availability in generalities, just not specific room-dates.

Like I can say “early December books up fast!” But not “December Xth has 3 studios left at resort Y”

In any case,

Yes, that could potentially be the reason.

But I will say at one point I tried to track availability at the room count level and I realized pretty quickly that DVC inventory fluctuates significantly at times in ways that aren’t easily explained by room blocking or guest booking, but instead seem to be reflective of IT issues and manual push-outs.

I believe @ehh came to a similar conclusion when they did similar work.

So I wouldn’t put too much thought into why any particular significant change in inventory happens.

I still track room inventory for my own stays and 7m switches. I like knowing how urgent I need to be in the future, and it's generally very interesting to me to watch inventory move over time.*

Inventory can definitely bounce around, but the obvious IT issues angle is not something I've collided with, fortunately.

The specific set of circumstances that had me stop tracking for refurbs was:
  • Disney has a rule, which means I follow that rule, to not script interactions with Disney websites
    • I interpret this as no automated scraping, even if all clicking is human
    • I do automatically scrape the CA Orange County Recorder Website for VDH sales tracking, so this is something I have experience in
  • No automatic scraping meant I would manually monitor inventory, and the LOE for just watching and then recording 11m+7d out wasn't too bad
    • There was a ton of noise in the signal here, and I definitely cried refurb-wolf when DVC simply upped its own renting
    • Now knowing the occupancy figures better, I think I could filter out that noise a lot better, but alas
  • However, what really broke the process was that inventory that had been clearly pulled at 11m+7d for a refurb could be restored a month or two later
  • Without watching/scraping all dates all the time, and due to the scale of monitoring all dates every day, I wouldn't/couldn't catch this with manual monitoring
  • This made my monitoring somewhat futile, as I could only loosely bracket start/end dates

Simple inventory restorations, like the one observed for Jambo, can definitely be from refurb plan adjustments. It might even be the most likely candidate around refurb time. But it needs to be backed up with more data, data that might show it was pulled in the first place, etc. I don't think we have that here, unless there was a prior thread that called out the same dates not being bookable at 11m+7d.

All that to say, I agree with @CastAStone here, I also wouldn't put too much thought into why the inventory suddenly looks the way it does.

* as an example of the inventory monitoring for my own stays, here's a heavily de-info'd chart of inventory for a 7m switch I did in the last 2 years:
