Can anyone give me their opinion on the "picnic in the park" at AK? I guess I know the details of it, but am looking for food reviews and photos.

Thanks!
Cathy

I'd like to hear your opinions (and a little more info) on this, too!

I'm sorry I don't have photos, but I do have opinions. We had the Picnic in the Park shortly after it was offered in May. As you walk into AK, you can place your order at a dedicated station once the park opens. We picked ours up at the Coffee House but now if you order sandwiches there is a different pick up location. We ordered the Rotisserie Chicken, Potato Wedges, and Fruit Salad for 3 (Myself, DW, DS). The positive is the food is very good. Hot food was hot, Fruit was fresh. We ordered brownies for dessert and they too were very good. If there is a downside it is the value and flexibility. We are not terribly big eaters, but if you compare a QS meal anywhere at WDW in terms of portion size to this, I think it falls a little flat. Because we were on the DDP, it did not matter if we ordered from tier 1 or tier 2. But every meal comes with a small bottle of water and like I said, the portions are not nearly the same as other QS locations. And if 1 orders chicken, everyone orders chicken. The sides are family style, so there is not a variation on what sides to order. The food was good, but I don't think we will do this again next year. Hope this helps!

There have been a couple of changes.

1) Ham is no longer offered. Tier 2 is now only rotisserie chicken.

2) Some of the side dishes are now only available with Tier 1 and some available only with Tier 2. For example, you may order cucumber and tomato salad with Tier 1, but it is not an option with Tier 2. All desserts are still available with both tiers. Everyone on the same order must order from the same tier - you cannot mix and match sandwiches and chicken without making two separate orders.

3) The pickup point for Tier 1 (sandwich selection) picnics is now in Dinoland. Tier 2 (rotisserie chicken) picnics can still be picked up at Kusafiri coffee shop in Africa. There's no special line for pickup - you get in line with everyone who is ordering coffee.

4) Not a change, but the only beverage included is one SMALL bottle of Dasani water per person.

We also did this in May but for four adults. We also had the chicken, which was very good and with two big eaters we had plently of chicken. We also got three sides, we choose the mac and cheese (my Dad and DH loved this), The cucumber salad (which was ok) and the fresh fruit (which was great.) We wish we would have ordered twohings of the fruit because it was so good. For desert we got a cookie (good), cornbread muffin (must have been great my Dad did not share it), a huge ricecrispy treat (very good), and the biggest orange I have ever seen, it weighed about 3lbs. We also got 4 small bottles of water, we were ok with the small bottles since we carry water, but I thought these would be bigger.

Overall we were very please with this meal and we would and will do this again. Sorry I do not have pictures of our meal, I thought about taking them after we all dug in.

I did this for the first time in November and we actually ended up doing this 2 times during our stay. It's great and there's plenty of food.

First time we did it was got the tier 2 chicken for 2 adults with the potato wedges and apples. The second time we did the chicken again the fruit salad as the side and brownies for desert. Both meals were excellent. We found a quiet spot crossing back over the bridge to the Oaisis and then we turned left down a path that you would walk to to view animals. There were benchs, tables and chairs and NO one there. It was perfect.

I don't have any photos sorry. You will enjoy it!

I haven't done it, but when we were waiting for Fantasmic, the family next to us had a bag they brought over from AK. It looked fantastic and I love the idea of bringing a bag dinner to eat while waiting 50 minutes for Fantasmic.

How does it work on the QSDP? I know there are no 'childs' credit options, and it says you use adult credits for it, but I also read that if some place doesn't have a child's menu, that they deduct the child credits but they are allowed to order from the adults menu. So if you have a family of 5, (2 adults 3 children) and you order this, does it take 5 adult credits so you are left with a surplus of children's credits or is it the later?
if we have lets say 10 adult credits and 10 childrens credits when we order this, would it leave us with 5 adult credits and 10 childrens credits?

Just use however many credits for the meal you want. There is no children's menu for the picnic, and when you order they do not distinguish between adult and child credits.

Strange question, but I have picky eaters -- if you have 4 people, do they give you an entire chicken? Is the chicken cut up and a mix of white and dark meat? If so, can you pay to upgrade to all white meat?
