Animal Kingdom Only Trip?

With a lot of Disney trips this year, I was thinking we'd mix up our June trip a little - lots of swimming (which we never do), relaxing (not even sure how to in Disney, lol), and maybe just visit Animal Kingdom. We'll be at Boardwalk in October for a mostly Epcot trip and Polynesian in December with close proximity to Magic Kingdom. This next trip we'll be staying at Pop Century. I'm reading more about Animal Kingdom and the Pandora opening and wondering if I'm just putting us in the most crowded park. Should we, instead, save AK for later & enjoy possibly lower crowds elsewhere? Also, will it be too hot in AK in June? We never travel in the summer so I don't know what to expect. I am from the deep south though and I know what hot & humid feels like. I can't imagine being in a crowded park while melting.

Any suggestions appreciated!

We do this a lot - take shorter trips and just focus on the park/parks that are in close proximity to our resort. We've done a few EP resort stays where we've never even stepped foot in AK and MK. It DOES make it more relaxing!

I, personally, like your idea. We've gone to WDW the last week of August for the past six years and, yes, it is hot. We typically go to a park in the morning, go back to the resort between about 1 pm - 5 pm, and then head back out later in the evening. You could to this in June! We are actually doing this with AK in August. Yes, it may be crowded, but if you go at rope drop and then later in the evening when the temps are a little lower, I think it's doable.

We do this too sometimes. The crowds will be bad, but if you are focusing on slowing down, you should have a great time. If it is too bad, you can always change your mind when you are there.

Absolutely AK. And since it has extended hours (11 pm -1 am) through July 4th for onsite guests, it may be the best park to visit in June in spite of the crowds. Go late, sleep in. Will probably be pretty awesome.

We had several days at AK last July and it was great. Especially in the evening at night.

Plus they are having EMH at night at AK because of Pandora, so you could go early, leave the park around noonish, go back to the resort for lunch and swim while it's hot, and go back in the evening. I always feel like AK feels hotter than the other parks because the dense vegetation prevents the air from circulating. I agree with your plan though. That's how I keep the parks fresh when I visit a lot. I focus on different parks each time.

FWIW the evening EMH for AK are for the Pandora section only as of right now. Might extend to more of AK by June if they see a need, nothing is certain with Disney.

Planning a 3 day trip around Memorial Day - staying at AKL and only planning on going to AK! It's the park I'm least familiar with so I'm excited.

Thanks for the responses! I think I'll start with AK on our first day. Then if it's crowded or crazy, we can readjust the following 2 days. It's a short trip so trying not to cram in too much. Do the pools get crazy mid-day? I feel like everyone's plan would be park in the morning/evening with pool around lunch.

It depends on the make up of who is staying and if the resort you have has a few quiet pools. Pop has 3 pools and the main one can get a little crowded but I wouldn't call it crazy.. it also has 2 quiet pools which is more for the quiet swim and not themed and just your basic pool. but again it varies, if it happens to be a large collection of families, it can get a little more crowded..

As far as AK, I would find it too hot in june.. I highly recommend it from nov - april.. I hated the park since it opened until my first december trip and then it was so great with better weather that I started to understand it.. Doesn't mean you won't enjoy it, but for me personally it's just too hot with almost no way to cool off...

Anything new is crowded at first (at first meaning about a year).. Disney has never done a land with someone elses intellectual property so who knows what it's really going to do.. You sound liek you have a plan b or c so just roll with the punches and it'll be a great trip.
