Going to AK on Sunday, March 13th, which will be the start of the Spring Break crowds. It will be myself, wife, daughter 3, daughter 6 months, and 2 grandparents (late 50s).

Here is our current plan if Disney moves the opening time to 8am again like last year. If not, we will just skip Rafiki's Planet Watch.

8am-8:35 - Kilimanjaro Safari
8:35-9:15 - Pangani Forest Walk
9:15-10:30 - Rafiki's Planet Watch (try to be first to meet Chip and Dale starting at 10:15)
10:45-11:35 - Lion King FP+
11:45-12:30 -Pizzafari
12:30-1:00 - Tough to Be a Bug
1:00-1:30 - Character Outpost FP+
1:35-2:00 - Meet Baloo and Louie
2:05-2:45 - Marajah Jungle Trek
2:55- 3:35 - Everest FP+ (only 2 of us want to ride - may ask for Rider Swap and both of us just ride again)
3:40-4:35 - Nemo
4:40-we leave - Dinoland USA (including Dinosaur FP+ with Rider Swap, Restaurantosauras for dinner, Meet Goofy and Pluto, Midway games, & Triceratop Spin)

Thoughts?

Your plan really caught my attention because we also plan to be at Animal Kingdom on March 13, BUT....we weren't planning on the park opening at 8am.

I just checked the calendars, and from what I am seeing, the park opening isn't until regular time of 9am.

Where did you find the 8am opening time?

(Apart from that issue, I think your time schedule looks very realistic, and is very well-planned).

It was switched from 9am to 8am last year, so I just made my plans based on that. If it stays at 9am, we will just skip Rafiki's Planet Watch, which will keep our touring plan on schedule, so we don't have to move our FP+ times.

Be prepared for your 3 year old to potentially freak out in It's Tough to be a Bug. There are parts where the lights go out and loud noises and things jump and scare the audience. It scared my kids when they were younger.

I have never done this attraction, so was unsure whether it would be okay for my DS5. He did like Dinosaur, so I was thinking this would be okay, but what are others thoughts?

Always hard to predict kids' reactions, but if he was OK with Dinosaur, he'll probably be OK with this one too -- unless he has a phobia about bugs.

I would skip Tough to be a Bug, and see Finding Nemo the Musical. It is fabulous and not a bit scary for the little ones. Flights of Wonder is great as well. Have a great time!

FoW will be closed that day. Still in refurb.

I'm watching hours, too. It's going to be our first full day. AND everyone remember it's "spring forward" day so the clocks will change the night before.

Too bad Flights of Wonder is in rehab. Wasn't aware of that...

Also don't count on that being the first day of spring break crowds. One of my kids is off from college the week of March 7 and the other the week of March 14. It won't be insane, but there will be plenty of folks there both weeks.

The "spring forward" is something to consider. Getting up at 6:15am(when it feels like 5:15am) to leave the house by 7:15am to get to AK for 8am doesn't sound like much fun. We are planning to go to Busch Gardens for a day, so I may switch it to this day as we can leave at 8:15 to make it for the 9:30 opening.

I agree. This really may turn into a concern for us since we have a pre-dawn flight the day before from CST. I think we may call it an early night and skip fireworks. Always hard to do on our arrival day. I've made my AK FP so that if we miss rope drop on Sunday we can still start about 10am and not miss too much. DH would have to consider skipping Everest or meeting us after he rides while we ride Safari.

We've decided to do AK despite the time change. The thinking is that some people will want no part of getting up an extra hour early (especially if it's moved to an 8am opening) and some will forget about it altogether.

Yeah, I agree. Still no change in the hours last time I looked. I wonder when they will update things. I decided to move our FPs to lunchtime. We now have our morning to deal with the sleep issues or get up and get there early. After that we'll have FPs for our must-dos. Luckily AK is not a dawn-to-midnight park. So we'll be able to call it quits when we get tired and still cover most of what we want to do.
