Animal Kingdom Lodge Security

Point requirements at AKL are the same as B&Y, Poly and Contemp Tower. The 71 points per night is for a room, (NOT a 1BR) at any of these resorts, on a Fri/Sat nite during Dream Season. (Mar, Apr, May, etc.)

As pointed out numerous times, it is far more costly to stay in a non-DVC resort room than a 1BR (and even 2BR) villa at a DVC resort. AKL is no different.
Thus far, all we have is speculation about the effect of AKL on pool hopping, as DVC has certainly NOT released any statement about any change in policy. Stay Tuned!

If it makes anyone feel better I was quoted the other day a rate of 176.50 per night inc. tax for the ap rate at AK from april 22 thru aug. 25th. I thought this was a steal.

I have reservations 8/20 - 9/1 with a savannah view and its like $299 per night. You did get a steal!

I made a PS at Bomas 2 weeks ago as a Disney Club member(I called the DC member's dining number)and did not have to leave a credit card to hold the seating. So it seems that DVC and Disney Club members are both excluded from the cc requirement.

I'm actually staying at AKL for part of this trip, and I'm a DVC member, and I still had to put the ressies at Boma on a credit card. Of course, the CM who spoke to me said this was her first time making ressies at Boma, and I didn't want to make a fuss, so I didn't argue with her.

Did you make your PS through Member Services? I did mine through MS and did not have to give a credit card #.

Yes, they do have 1 BR units there (I think they may have 2BR units as well...). During high season the 1BR's go for nearly $800 a night.

I want to thank everyone for the information and contribution to this post. All the responses were very helpful. I think it is clear at this point pool hopping will not be permitted. I am thinking of staying at least one night at AKL--no points. Enjoy! ;)

We're staying 2 nights for $424 inc. tax in a savannah view room this July before moving on to OKW and BWV. This was an AP discount.

I find it hard to belive that you can't ask to see they menu for the new dinning area at ak. I can understand the tighting of security at the new resort, there has been alot of hype about the new resort, so naturally people are going to be curious about seeing what the resort looks like and disney number 1 piority is making their guests happy. I had the opportunity to talk to two AKL CM's who are on the opening team and i asked them this very question about limited access and they told me it was because of the animals and the views available from the lodge; they felt that some people would just try to see them from the lodge and not visit the REAL savannah (they're two different savannahs and animal groups) and it would hurt AK's attendance. Maybe the restriction will be lifted when the novelty wears off. donna

Once they open, I'm sure someone will get menus and they will be posted on Deb Will's site. I think she plans to be there for the opening. She already has some preliminary information on her menu site.

I think once they open they will relax the restrictions some, especially for WDW resort guests. They already seem to be relaxing the credit card requirement. I could see people disputing the charges on their cards and they willn't have a signature to back it up.

I know some CM's who were around when AK opened. That was also under tight security. Disney was concerned about animal rights activists creating a problem. Perhaps the policy for AKL is related to this?

PETA can do some outlandish things....I personally beleive in PETH (People for the Ethical Treatment of Humans)

I never thought of the PETA aspect. It is a consideration.
