Animal Kingdom Lodge Partial closer till Sept. 1

I wonder if they will move us to the poly???? If I ask??

There is a special department for that in which they will transfer you to. Call reservations and ask them if you will have to move. They will then connect you to the specialized team that is dealing with this issue.

I'm on hold with them right now! I'll keep everyone updated on what they tell me!

OK well the lady had no idea... She even said she didn't know that people were being moved. She also said "if AKL can not accomodate you, you can always cancel" :scared1: I can't believe that she said that!!!!!!!!
I don't think she knew anything...

I'm worried that IF i have to move they will take into consideration that we got 40% off and give us a crappy room somewhere... I don't know.. I'm kinda worried!!

We had a standard room booked at AKL with the 40% off code and they moved us to a waterview room at BC. :cheer2: :cheer2: our dates are 8/21-8/26.

When you call ask to speak to guest services, they'll connect you to the right people. Be polite but firm with the front line CM's.:goodvibes

Call back and ask to be transferred to Guest Relations which will then either provide you with information and/or transfer you to the specialized department handling these situations.

I'm new to these boards and I think I'm going to need some experienced help. I'm booked at AKL Savannah View Bunk Bed Room from 8/4 to 8/11. We chose AKL for several reasons:
-bunk beds (giving my 9 year old twins separate beds)
-zero entry pool (dd can't swim and has much more fun in zero entry pools)
-mostly indoor walk to the bus stop (dd is in kidney failure and will be in a wheelchair, we need to conserve her time in the sun/heat)
-patio/balcony
-roomview (for kids and for dh and I after they go to bed)
-proximity to AK (we are skipping epcot this year and planned to spend two full days at AK

I booked through a TA and haven't received a response to my email to her.

I know our trip will be great no matter what, however, our last trip we stayed at POP and were really disappointed, the room was VERY small for us (dd has medical issues that require supplies etc.) and we just didn't feel "disney magic" staying there. So I'm very concerned about what our options would be if we have to be moved. And I'm concerned what will happen to our animal sightings if we don't move.

I'd love to have someone offer some resort suggestions given our reasons for booking AKL that I listed above. Thanks.

It sounds to me like you have lots of great reasons for wanting to be at the AKL. You mentioned that you want to spend lots of time at AK and no time at
Epcot, but you never mentioned the MK. If you plan on spending time at the MK then I would ask for a move to the Poly. The Poly has a wonderful atmosphere for all ages. The pool is zero entry. The monorail would be great for you dd. The rooms are Huge. The negative is that you need to walk outdoors to get to the Monorail and to the bus stop (but there are lots of longhouses that are close to both).
If you plan on spending all of your time at the AKL and your kids have their hearts set on seeing the animals at the AKL then I would suggest staying where you are. I am certain that you will see lots of animals. Disney would not leave half of the resort opened (to high paying Savannah View customers) if that section of the resort had no animals.
Good Luck - Let us know where you end up

After reading your post, I think you should stay at AKL. Especially if they didn't call you. Disney is awesome at making sure guests are satisfied. As posted before not all rooms are going to be affected by construction. By your post it seems like AKL is perfect, has all your "wants". I'd stay put. Don't worry, you'll have a wonderful time. :goodvibes

I agree. We are staying at AKL Oct 7-13 and we all should try to remember what keeps us coming back year after year and that's Disney service. I feel really confident that Disney will do everything possible to make your stay a Magical one! :wizard:

Summer-Caitlin,

What about an update, I have been following your story and need to know what is going on?:confused3

Just talked to my TA who talked to Disney, they said if we were going to be contacted we would have been contacted already so that means we can stay at AKL. Went over our issues with her and together we decided only the Poly and GF would meet our needs should we have to move, so she's going to make our needs known should she be contacted. Told her we can handle the construction just want to know we'll have our bunk beds and be able to see animals.

This is really frustrating: I called Guest Services AGAIN to tell them I would like to be moved, but they refused to move me since our check-in date is after Sept 1. I tried to explain to them that my husband and I have allergies, that this was our honeymoon, but to no avail: the most they could do was move us to WL courtyard view to keep our Free Dining, but with an extra charge of $400+!!!!!! I said no way am I paying that, when I was not aware of any construction when I made my reservation. He asked if I had received a call or letter about the construction at AKL. I said no, I have not. Then he got really flippant with me and said we could not be moved, and that even if we WERE asked to move, we would still be responsible for the upcharge. I told him flat out, "You have no idea what you're talking about." Then he admitted he did not, that he wasn't part of the special team assigned to handle the AKL issue. I asked to speak with that said "special team"....and he said NO. I am so frustrated with all this.

I wonder if next month they will start to move those staying in September, and they won't move anyone staying after Sept 1 because they want to fill as many rooms as they can at their standard rates, since moving from AKL to GF, for instance, costs them more money.

I hate dealing with corporate. The "ground" workers at WDW are so much more interested in the comfort of the guests.

And those of us terrified of being moved probably will be :( :( Not fair.

Good luck with everything.

Thanks for the push in the right direction. Glad everything worked out for her.

TheLastPrincess,

Your trip is after the interior is to be completed so your stay at AKL should be no problem. If people who are staying after September 01, 2007, start getting calls I'm sure they will report it here. That is why they told you that they would have to charge you an additional amount if you moved to one of those locations, it would be an upgrade of your own doing. Sit tight, I'm sure everything will have been worked out by then.

kutchyone - Thanks for asking how I got on:goodvibes After a long drawn out battle, I got moved and no extra charge, which is really waht Disney should be doing with all that are affected.

TheLastPrincess - I really feel for you, I so wish that this wasn't happening to you. I know how special your honeymoon is and you don't need this added stress. Keep trying to call and see if you can speak to this 'special team' and see what they say. I do think that Sept 1st seems to be the cutoff date, so I'm hoping that the construction will be over by then. I am sending loads of pixiedust:pixiedust: your way in the hopes that this can be sorted for you and you can have a magical honeymoon.

Thanks, I'm not really worried about myself...I can "suck it up" if I'm not hacking and/or wheezing from dust! But it's my DH I'm worried about...this is his first Disney trip and I want him to be HOOKED from the moment he steps foot onto property. If AKL disturbs my plan, I will not be happy! :sad2:

Congrats on staying at the GF, by the way....you will absolutely positively LOVE it! Believe me, if money wasn't an issue, we'd be staying there too. First place we stayed when I was 5 years old...I remember it like it was yesterday!!! Have a wonderful honeymoon.

I have almost the same dates as you mine are 8/4 to 8/12 and I talked to my TA and she called Disney and they said the Savannah view rooms would not be affected at that time. They also said that you would have already contacted if you would have already been contacted if you were going to be moved and they also said if you really wanted to be moved they would move you. I said that I want to stay that if I get there and I dont see the animals or the noise is bad it will be a different story, but I am happy staying there.

Sarah

I just got back in from AKL a few hours ago. We were never bothered by the noise - actually heard it for the first time this morning while I was in the lobby checking out. We had an excellent Savannah view. CL lounge is terribly inconvienient, but otherwise everything was perfect!
There was one little glitch - our 2nd day, there was some type of construction fire, and the buildig had to be evacuated while the firemen when in to hose things off, but we never even could tell exactly where that had been, and the staff handled it beautifully.
Not sure I would do CL there if I wasn't doing the safari, but everything else was perfect!!!
