Animal Kingdom Lodge Dining

What is fun to do at Animal Kingdom Lodge after dinner? What do you like about Jiko, Boma, and Saana?

We are thinking about having dinner at Jiko or Boma... instead of Tusker House at Animal Kingdom park. Thought it might be fun to check out the AK Lodge - might want to stay there next trip.

The photos of the lobby look interesting enough... is there any entertainment or fun things to do while we are there after dinner? I saw something about watching the animals with night vision goggles?

I don't think it's a long bus ride to the Lodge from the Park, is it worth the trip instead of just eating in the park? We ate at Tusker House last year and it was delicious...Boma sounds like it is the same food and buffet - any differences?

observation areas:

Arusha Rock - located on the second floor adjacent to the main lobby.

Sunset Overlook - located in the main lobby.

Uzima Overlook - located at the Uzima Pool area.

The Uzima location is where, at least at one time, they used to have night vision goggles. The program is late - 9:00 PM or so. Whoever shows up

There is storytelling at 7:30 PM around a firepit in back.

we love jiko. and just walking around AKL is wonderful. be sure to check out the headdress; you can't miss it. it is awesome!

Tusker House is great, but yes, definitely check out the AKL! There is so much to do and see there. If you're there at the right time, you might also catch a drum concert/parade from the gift shop. We also enjoy talking with AKL castmembers as many of them are from Africa and working at Disney on an internship.

Boma has some similarities to Tusker House, but several more items that are more African or Middle Eastern influenced. And their soups are to die for.

Sanaa is fabulous.

Jiko...we are giving it a break. Given it quite a few chances this past year with friends, friends went back, neither service or food has been up to par.

Boma has never let us down.

AKL itself is like a little museum, so take time to check it out. The animals can be viewed, no problem. Bars are nice to realax and enjoy cocktails in.
Bar at Sanaa, small but adorable and they have a wonderful wine list.

I got the current schedule (below). AK Lodge sounds so interesting but I'm going to keep my dinner at Tusker House in the AK park.... and this gives me a reason to come back to WDW and stay at AK Lodge.

Wildlife Games 6:30pm
African Folktales Around the Fire Pit 7:30pm (lasts 30 minutes to an hour)
Parade 7:50pm
Safari 8:30pm (20 minutes long)
Observation of Animals Using Night Vision 8:15pm-11pm
