We're going to AKL for the first time in a few weeks. Can someone give some info in the things to do there for kids other than the rides and main shows? Thx :)

Maharaja Jungle Trek (tigers!!!)

There is another trail by Safari as well (Panganini or something like that).

Wilderness Explorer program

Rafiki's Planet Watch. There is a petting zoo and other things for kids. I think it's one of AK's hidden gems.

I second the Wilderness Explorers program. My DDs love exploring the parks and finding the kiosks to add the WE stickers badges in their books. I enjoy the talks the CMs give at the stations myself. They are really informative and interactive.

Caw Caw Rawr!

I second the Wilderness Explorer program. We've been to WDW several times and AK is usually one of our "meh" parks (love it but not as much as MK and Epcot). But my DD 12 absolutely loved the WE program and tried to do as much of it as possible. It's like a scavenger hunt so it kind of forced us into areas that we may have glossed over. And it was totally low tech, which I loved.

And don't overlook the live music in just about every land in the park. I see all kinds of kids dancing their hearts out, especially in Asia.

Rafiki's Planet Watch is fun. Rafiki is there for autographs and pictures. You can tour the vet areas, and there's a petting zoo area that my girls love. Stopping to enjoy the live music performers in the different lands/areas is fun too. My girls really like touring the Maharajah Jungle Trek and the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail too. They particularly like the Pangani Trail.

At the AK Park, slow down and look at the animals in the entry paths. Also have the kids pay attention to the sidewalks. They change thruout the park. You will see animal prints almost everywhere and the pavement changes in each part of the park. Disney worked hard to make the asphalt in Dino land to look like an old parking lot. I know its hard for small kids to stand still, but if you just stop and look in the aviaries they can see some really cool birds up close.
If you are staying at the AK Lodge take advantage of all the displays. Talk to cast members on duty, they can show folks a lot of cool things.
The secret for the AK & AKL is to just slow down and look.
