Hope this is acceptable to ask for recommendations. I know several of you live near Disney, and I need help. DD has accepted a professional internship at Disney, starting in January. She is taking her one year old puppy with her. (I know it’s not a good idea, but I can’t talk her out of it.) They are inseparable. Also, she just passed her Therapy Dog International test last week and wants to take her on therapy visits in the area. Anyway, the dog needs frequent grooming and will need a vet. Any of you have recommendations? It would probably be easier if the vet has a grooming facility. You can pm me if you prefer. Thanks.

She can always see if there is a PetSmart near her since they have Banfield and grooming. Once she gets to know people they can give her vet recommendations. I'm not a big fan of Banfield but have used them when I moved until I could get a feel of the area.

I assume that she is a management professional intern or finding her own housing?

I will look for the name of the vet we used down there. It was in Hunter's Creek.

Ok - all I could fine online was Hunter's Creek Animal Hospital and it looks to be in the right location. I can't remember the vets name. We lived down there nearly 15 years ago.

There is a vet hospital in Celebration and a pretty big animal hospital in Clermont.

If she will be living in the apartments on Winter Garden-Vineland Rd (535)
There is a Petsmart in the new outdoor mall located at 535 and the 429.

There is also the West Orange Animal Hospital 407-656-1800
They do grooming there and the vet is very knowledgeable.

Thanks for the replies. She is not management - just professional internship. Since she is taking the dog, she knows she will have to find her own apartment. Chances are it will be in the S. International Drive area - I think a couple of places she is looking at are Avenues at Gateway and Camden at World Gateway.

I know she really wants to take the dog but part (a HUGE part) of the experience is living with other interns. Trust me, BTDT. There are lifelong friendships to be made and the majority of those people won't work with her.

She'll have her dog. But it'll be lonely in an apartment by herself in a new city. In the Disney sponsored housing, everyone is in the same boat and friends are made quickly.

There are a lot of "happenings" at these complexes that she won't be allowed to participate in because she doesn't live there.

She wouldn't be willing to leave the dog with you? That isn't an option?

Does she know anyone who has done any of the programs who she can talk to?

I'm sure she loves her dog and it set on bringing it with her. I just worry she won't get as much out of the entire experience if she does.

Thanks. Let me clarify a few things. DD did the College Program last year, so she is very familiar with the housing, activities, etc. This is different in that it is a PI. Not many of the PI's live in Disney sponsored housing. They told DD that her particular PI could extend into a permanent position with Disney.

You have no idea how much we would love to keep the dog here, but she got this puppy a year ago right after she finished her CP to train and take with her. She is graduating college next month, and chances are, she will stay in Florida. She already has a roommate and several friends that are there. I'm not concerned about her socialization. This kid knows a ton of people down there. I regress on that subject, since I suspect several of her friends will read this.

You have brought up what is going through my mind. I worry about Sophie (the dog) being left alone during the day, but there will be friends to check in on her. She is a very adaptable dog. She won't be the first dog to be left alone during the daytime. DD's work schedule should be a typical 9-5 day, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I take my animals to the Animal Clinic of Windermere. It is about 15 minutes from WDW property. I can't recommend them enough. Great people! Wonderful vet!

Well she seems to have it all covered. If she has done the CP before, I'm sure she knows lots of people.

I was just sad really, hoping that she wouldn't be all alone. Many of the professional internships don't require CP Alumni status. Or at least they didn't.

I did 2 CPs and 2 professional internships. I didn't live in Disney housing for the 2nd professional internship. I know everyone except management interns have the option of either way.

Actually, I didn't live at a Disney complex for the 1st one either but it was before they had 3 properties and they sponsored housing at different locations.

I'm sure you will miss her lots and lots but you never know, this could turn into her home.

Here is a picture of Sophie. You can see why she'll need frequent grooming. Thanks for all the suggestions. Since I can't change DD's mind, I have to accept it and go on with helping her find a groomer and vet.

There is a Petsmart in Winter Garden Village which is not far from WDW property. They have both a vet and a grooming service.

Please ask her to find a regular vet ASAP (before the dog needs any emergency attention). Petsmart may offer veterinary services, but that's not the same as having a vet who knows your pet and will fit you in if something alarming suddenly comes up. And the last place you want to take your sick animal is a store.

Of course the last place you should want to take your healthy pet is a store that caters to sick animals.
