If anyone is needing an idea for a Game Cube Game, go and purchase Animal Crossing. This is a great game for kids 8-adult. It teaches life skills about money and the community and it is alot of fun. The players(animals) get to start up a town from scratch. When you first arrive in the town, you get an empty shack to live in. Then you must go and get a job to earn money. As soon as you pay off your house loan, you can build a bigger house. There is a mayor and a police officer. You can hook the game up to your game-boy for extra fun with a cable and an e-card reader. Today in the town, we are having a blizzard and the trees have Christmas lights on them(we were surprised when we turned the game on to see the lights and snow). You can even build a snowman. This game has so many layers to it. My kids, their friends and even I am addicted to this game. This would make a great Christmas gift for any child on your list. :cool1:

this game also comes with it's own memory card and can now be bought for anywhere from $9.99 - $19.99 Great Value.

although I found it online I think the B&M deals on this game aare better.

WARNING: you will get addicted and need more memory cards for more towns. We have a total of 6 towns right now.

Needless to say DS and I love this game.

A must though is the quide. It really helps.

My DBF (25, mind you) was obsessed with this game a couple years ago when we first started dating. In fact, we were once out on a date and we were going from dinner to a bar or something, and we had to go home between the two places because he had to turn the lighthouse on for the mayor by a certain time since the game is in real time. I was both amused and annoyed at the same time. :) Anyway, just goes to show that all ages really do enjoy it! :)

I swear that this is the best game ever! My only problem is that my son does not pick the weeds and I could then spend an hour just picking them myself if I have not played in awhile. Fun, fun game that everyone should try!!!!!

yes, but perhaps not nearly as bad as my 3 month phase when I would make everybody in the house get up early enough every Sunday morning to make sure we could all buy turnips.

If you the Gameboy, you get to go to the Island and get a suntan. :cool1:

my best friend and her husband have this game, and I play for a few hours every time I visit....it's so addicting and so much fun :)

Another vote for this game - my kids have spent HOURS playing it and really love it. They've had it for a year or more. It sits on the shelf for a couple months and then they get back into it again.

By the way, you can always reset the time if you miss turning on the lighthouse or buying the turnips! :p

My dd10 doesn't really get into the GameCube but she wants American Idol and I can't find it. She did play one Spongebob game for awhile.
She likes to play Zoo Tycoon and Roller Coaster Tycoon on the computer. Would she like Animal Crossing?

I heard there was a Animal Crossing 2 coming out..
I caught all the fish except 2 & All the insects except 2...
Got all the fossils but needed quite a few pieces of artwork...
I loved that game..

We have it. My mom, dad, brother and me are addicted

I love this game. We've had it for a couple of years, but just recently started playing it again. It's a boring Sunday here for me and I'm telling my husband to get the Gamecube from our bedroom and hook it up down here so I can play and he can lay back down (he's on 11-7 right now).

My daughter has her own town on a separate memory card, but my son, my husband, and I each have our own house in the one town. It's really nice being able to mail each other things we know the other needs (though my son LOVES cheat codes LOL) or leaving them on the gyroids (sp?). Sometimes we'll just bury the item by the person's house we want to have the item.

As for there being a new one released, a new one for the Nintendo handheld is coming out in like November? I'm not sure the release date has been set yet, but I think it will be before Christmas. I heard however that it's basically the same game on the handheld. I'm sure they'll add a little here and there though. I did read that it will be online.

Animal Crossing 2 was released in Japan a year or more ago. I guess another version of the game was released in Japan before we got ours here in the US. When our Animal Crossing was released here in the states, it contained a LOT more than the original in Japan, so they made another for Japan (much similar to ours) and re-released it there. If you do a web search and see Animal Crossing 2, this is probably what they're talking about.

As for our next installment, Nintendo has announced nothing! :( I'm sure something is in the works though. They've made a killing off this game and it would be foolish not to release another. I'm not sure we'll see it for the Gamecube however, it will probably be released (that's just a guess) as one of the titles for the new Nintendo Revolution (their next system). I'm dying to play it though!!! I also read online that it very well may be online and we could visit one another's towns via the net, but that's just speculation at this point.

So we are updating this thread?

Well 8yodd loved Animal Crossing and still is playing it. If you have a Game Cube it is great for 8 & up!!!

My friend has this game. Last New Year's Eve she had a party. Well, we could not watch the New Year's countdown on TV with Times Square and the big ball coming down. Nope. We had to ring in the New Year with ANIMAL CROSSING!! She is way into it. :rotfl:

I guess she didn't want to adjust the clock in the game so she could watch both?

Is there alot of reading in this game?

We are thinking about getting Game Cube for our kids this Christmas, they are 6 & 3. My 6 yo is reading, but the longer words sometimes get her. I saw on Amazon there was a Game Cube for sale with the Animal Crossing game for $99.99. Looks like it only has 1 controller, not sure about the memory card involved.

Thanks for any help.

Pam

Our whole family was absolutely addicted to this game. DH and I stayed up til 2 am many times fishing and decorating and shaking trees, etc. This is a very good game for children, no violence at all. It's not bad for adults, either! If they ever release AC2, I'm sure we will become addicted to it, as well.

There is some reading in it, but it's probably just fine for beginning readers because you can go at your own pace. In other words, when the animals are speaking in gibberish, there is a cartoon cloud that appears above their head that tells you what they are saying. You can take as long as you want to read what they say before you hit the button to continue. So you can help your child sound out the words without worrying about the text moving on before you are ready.

Just so you don't get your hopes too high, I've read online that it's basically the same game but will have some new features and it will be online from what I'd read.
