We're on the December 18th Christmas Cruise and were just contacted by DCL that our Dolphin Swim on Antigua has been cancelled. They offered us one on St. Martin --- has anyone been on it? What's it like --- is it worth the $$$??

We had planned on just hanging around St. Martin --- if we switch the the Dolphin excursion we won't get back to the ship until 5:30pm so we'll miss dinner and it's Pirate Night.

I need opinions FAST ----

THANKS

I've never been to either, but the Dolphin excursion on St. Martin actually takes place on Anguilla. It is truly one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with AWESOME beaches. You get to go to the Dolphin Encounter and then get to spend the afternoon at Mead's Bay, a wonderful beach. Personally, I'd take them up on their offer, as it will be a wonderful day.

Edited to add: You should make it back for Pirate Night. The excursion is 7 - 7 1/2 hours long, with a meeting time at 7:30. The latest you should be back to the ship is around 4:30, giving you plenty of time to make it to Pirate Night.

Thanks for the info --- I talked to them again --- originally they had us leaving at 10:45, apparently they were going to "add" an additional excursion. This morning when I got the fax confirmation they had us leaving at 7:30 --- works out a lot better!!!

We did that excursion last cruise, the beach is beautiful, the food so so, the dolphin excursion, terrible, do not waste your money, the place is downright filthy, my daughter wouldn't even get in the pool it was so gross, crap floating all over the place, and that part was only a little while, the rest was looking at crab races and other time wasting stuff. It cost us something like $400 for 3 of us, we could have spent that money in other places and a had a much better time. It is also a very very long ride, passing by very very poor areas, very sad.

thanks for the info on your less than satisfactory experience with the dolphin excursion. I'm sorry to hear it was disappointing.

Hi,

I just had to chime in here. I spent a week in Anguilla July 2003 and while the beaches are truly fabulous, the island isn't as magical as some people make it sound. The Anguillan people were absolutely great! We had a rental car and drove all over the island and I didn't see too many "very very poor areas". What we did see was a lot of half finished buildings and lots of scrub bushes. The island is pretty flat. Now the beaches are truly fantastic and the water is great. We stayed in Rendezvous Bay and loved the beaches.

There is a public ferry that leaves St. Maartin (Marigot) that you can easily take to Anguilla and create your own excursion. My DW and I did the reverse, taking the ferry from Anguilla to St. Maartin and rented scooters for the day. It was great.

Above all, have a great time.

I couldn't agree more!! Most Caribbean Islands aren't all that attractive, with the exception of their resorts and beaches. The only one that I could say really doesn't fall into that category is St. John, but even St. John has it's moments. Most Caribbean Islands are relatively poor countries, and it really isn't all that nice to see.
