Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but I saw an article on one of my local TV news websites that was talking about the 100 most angry cities in the U.S.

Guess what #1 was?!?!?!?!? That's right!!!

ORLANDO FLORIDA!!!!!! :furious:

What is up with that??

This list was published in Men's Health Magazine and according to the article, Orlando has the highest stress and hypertension level.

Of course I only go there to go to WDW, but why is this?

Anyone from around there, can you explain this?!?!?!

Maybe it's because WDW sucks all of the stress out of people when they're in the parks. I mean, that stress has to go somewhere!

My town was voted the crankiest town in America once by the ABA, but we're just cranky, not angry :)

You're talking about residents of Orlando, not tourists. I would imagine the congestion and other problems with it being one of the largest tourist destinations in the country add to the anger.

I agree. I bet the residents of Orlanso are angry a LOT. Traffic, tourists, crowds etc.

Imagine dealing with all of the traffic near WDW every day! No wonder the residents are angry!

 :furious: :hyper: :crazy2:

Traffic, tourists not knowing where they are going, simple trips to the grocery store being unbearable during peak times of the year, taking an hour to get across town at any hour of the day, not being able to take a leisurely stroll around the park or the mall without tons of people being there all of them not knowing where they are going, timeshare booths everywhere stopping even us locals when we are doing simple things like going out to eat with our families, high cost of living and low wages, illegal immigrants, etc, etc etc (let me stop now...)

Traffic, high cost of living and low wages, tourists, tourists, tourists.

Soooo many people here work in the service industry for low wages, and tourists are just getting impossible to please. Attractions such as WDW and US are pushing employees to the brink, expecting more and more from them, while at the same time the tourists are squeezing them from the other direction--wanting five star service for bargain basement prices. They end up miserable and take it out on others that live here who end up angry that they have to deal with nasty people.

Rising crime rates, congestion, and illegal immigrants add to the mix to just make a volatile blend of seething anger.

i would think allot of it has to be about living in a major tourist destination. i can't imagine the stress of it 365 days a year, but i can sympathize-i grew up in napa california and the peak tourist times were realy taxing. much heavier traffic, people who ignored simple driver safety because they were looking at the scenery (slamming on their breaks on the highway to stop and point at the vineyards cause allot of accidents), the lines in the stores eliminating the possibility of running a quick errand....

it also gets frustrating when you live in a tourist destination and you see local services go lacking in funding in favor of those that will generate more tourists (the roads that the tourists travel on are going to be much better maintained than the neighborhood ones the locals travel on, redevelopment funds may go to creating a venue for concerts, art fairs and other events focused on tourists vs. something that will benefit locals and their children-like neighborhood parks and such)-and there is the constant reality that the tourist's wants and desires are generaly always going to prevail over the local's needs (tourism profiteers lobby strongly on local issues that they perceive may have a positive/negative effect on their profit line-the locals are viewed as inconsiquential-they are not their 'bread and butter').
you compound that with housing/rental prices, food and gas going at tourist rates while the bulk of in area jobs being low paying tourist industry fare and you have allot of people who are born and raised there (multi generational families) faced with the reality of either enduring a long commute out of the area for decent wages or moving out and on to the more realisticly priced non tourist areas-and you lose allot of the sense of community (it's telling when i talk to people who attend their high school reunions talk over the years of how as people get older they tend to gravitate back to their home towns to raise their kids and be close to family, the grads. of my highschool home town tend as they get older to move away-they can't afford to live and work and work there).

I generally agree with what others have said. Government services, schools hospitals are all inferior to what we had at home. The jobs here pay very little on the whole. I think a lot of people have expectations that things here will be on par with what they were at home and end up really disappointed when they're not.
Road rage, there are lots of people who just can't drive, and not just the tourists. I've never run across so many people who can't seem to wrap their brains around the idea that the cute blinky lights on the rear of your car aren't accesories, they have a name ("directionals") and serve an actual purpose.
And I know I hated shoveling snow up north, but I find that hot sweaty people have shorter tempers than cold people.
Despite all this, I don't consider myself an angry person at all.

We're number 29. I don't feel angry. Yes, though, I agree the temps and the traffic really fire people up. We saw SO many angry parents at pick-up yesterday after school. One of the teachers said it must be the temp.......it was 105.

Actually it is ALL the traffic on the I-4 corridor...Disney has little to do with it when people are stuck in traffic during the rush hour about 20 miles away.

As far as the anger..I am surprise.

But they also had their first increase in murder rate in a while (I forget what it was...but instead of trending down it is going up).

So I'm wondering if the problem extends beyond the tourists (as in they don't have a whole heck of a lot to do with it).

If I had to drive in Orlando on a daily basis, I would probably crack. The traffic alone is a nightmare, I think it's worse than Miami's.

I like to visit Central FL, but I would not want to live there. My SIL lives in DeLand and I don't care for it either.

Where I live came in 77th, where we're looking at moving to is 90th. I can live with that!

St. Louis is #10. Although we're in Illinois, we're right across the River from St. Louis and spend lots of time there. Traffic is a HUGE issue for us.

Traffic on Rt. 4 might ease up a it once people driving to WDW from the north learn about the new highway that eliminates the need to go on Rt. 4, at least from our direction. So far, there's almost no traffic and it drops you off on Buena Vista Blvd. right by Coronado Springs and Animal Kingdom.

We're #20 :furious: People here are pissed that the city might make some progress and move in the latter half of the 20th century. :bitelip:

Tell me about this new highway, please!!! Does it come off the turnpike?
