Angle Food Ministries

Thanks, it sounds great. Do you think it would work with the ribeyes on March's menu? I'm thinking about buying them because they have the 10lb chicken tenders my kids love and cheap!

I don't see why not. You may have to cut them into 2-3 pieces depending on their size so they'll cook better but I can't see it being a problem.

I'm getting the chicken tenders too. Summers coming up & we'll have lots of lunches at home. Those tenders are perfect.

Here's another :thumbsup2 for Angel Food. We have been doing it for almost 3 years now. I think it is a great way to stretch your food budget. Some months are better than others for our family. Our pick up church has a place to donate any food items that your family won't eat and then donates them to the local food pantry - even frozen foods. I say - give it a try. Some of my friends have loved and some have said it's not for them.

I've been looking at it for a while for my inlaws, and the food assistance/grocery delivery group in my area, just added it to their offerings for their clients. I think for someone who doesn't have a lot of time to shop and hunt up the bargains, it's a good deal. That is compared to the retail prices of the food. However, since I am such a coupon fanatic/bargain hunter, I personally can do better, and have decided for my inlaws, my $30 is better spent on me stocking up on the sales I find to share with them. I know not everyone has that luxury, but since I have been out of work, I have plenty of time to comparison shop, review the coupon forums and regularly cut my grocery bill in half every week. If you or the person you are looking at this for, doesn't have that ability, I think it's a good deal. As far as the processed food, that is just the way most people eat nowadays, so I think they are just trying to offer things that appeal to the masses.

Doubt it will be around much longer - IRS and FBI are on the case. For a non-profit agency, the family was making millions off this deal. Stores and corporations were donating thinking that it was a charity.

i was really happy with my first order and march's menu looks even better so i placed an order for that. the chicken breasts were really good having the pork chops tonight. wasn't expecting a dessert it was banana cream pie the kids loved that. i hope it sticks around it is definately a good deal for the price.

Be warned .... Angel Food Ministries sued; kickbacks, sweetheart deals alleged
2 board members of charity that feeds poor say Wingo family enriched themselves by $2.7 million.

I am withholding judgement on this, having met the wingo's and handled the pickup from them for our scout troop. There was another front page story today in the ajc about the two people who filed the suit, saying they are trying to take over the business and force the founders out. I hope it doesn't bring the organization down, it is a good one.

An update:

I asked my friend who bought the senior box what she thought of the meals. She said they are tasty and just enough food for one older person. She also thought they were a good value.

Hope this helps someone.

I have done Angel Food for three years and love it. IO only missed two months. I know they have been in the paper. That is between Angel Food and God. As long as they are doing there jobs I am not going to worry about it.

We got the regular box and the allergy box for March.

I just wanted to review the allergy box for anyone interested. The food is from Allergy Free Foods (they have a website). It is a very good deal for what it is. The chicken nuggets had about 24 in the box, proportioned out the food is about $5 a bag... the Ian's chicken nuggets are about half that size in a box for $7. If you go to their website it is also about half the price they charge for mail order. It all uses the same breading, and it looked pretty good, and DS snarfed it down. It truly is junky fast-food type stuff, just a box of different breaded meats, but for a quick dinner when you don't feel like cooking, it will do the trick. It's probably cheaper for me to make chicken nuggets from scratch for DS, but for the convenience it's worth it to have it on hand.

I had never heard of the brand before but I live in the sticks. ;)

I don't know about their finances, but I hope they don't go out of business too fast, because we need some more allergy boxes. :lmao: The allergy box isn't an add-on, you don't have to buy the main box to get it.

The senior meals, are these just basically frozen microwave dinners? We've been telling the MIL to try them out, and were thinking of just buying some for her in April. But that price for a frozen dinner I could do better at the grocery store. What's the difference, are they worth the money?

I haven't bought Angel Food in a long time. A while back we got some things we weren't happy with a couple of months in a row, then the next month's menu had too much we didn't like.

I know a lot of it isn't exactly healthy food, but even at the grocery store I do not buy all healthy food. Most of the time I found that if I bought Angel Food and mixed that with healthier choices from the grocery store that it all balanced out in the end to about the same healthy to unhealthy proportions I'd buy anyway. But then I don't buy enough Angel Food to live off it for an entire month.

We do really like their meatballs and breaded chicken items. Yes, the breaded chicken is more breading than chicken sometimes, but we like it that way, and we don't eat it every day. The popcorn chicken and strips/nuggets are great for popping into the toaster oven and putting on a salad. I also like their fajita strips.

I don't care for their steaks, but DH and the boys are fine with them.

The produce box looks pretty good this month, special #6 I think it is. I'm going to order this time around. I think this will be my first box since last August or something like that.

We did Angel Food exactly one time - in March 2009. While the price was right, the food was marginal and yes, processed. Too much sodium, fat and cholesterol for us. It was worth a try though.

For those of you who don't know, you can't just buy the fruit and vegetable box.

We'll stick to watching the sales and stocking up.

I have found the value and quality of the food has gone up since we started ordering from them in November. We always get the basic box and usually a grill box(LOVE their steaks)...and every other month I get a veggie box(SO worth it). My grocery bill has gone down and since I cook steaks so has our eat out budget.

I think it sounds like the quality has gone up since I tried it a couple of years ago. I might have to try it again and see what I think.

Well... I went ahead and ordered the regular box plus the produce special. I hope I didn't waste money in my effort to save money. ;)

I am a reallypicky eater and I love it. I usually get a regular box and a fruit box every three months!
