I just wanted to share a positve angel tree experience with everyone. I was contacted back at the begining of Nov. to see the Cub Scout Pack I am committee chairman for would be willing to support a family for Christmas. We received our angels and the only one who had any requests was a 15 yr. old girl requested bath lotion, body lotion, nail polish. The remaining 3 children (12 yr. boy, 4 yr. boy and 2yr girl) and the mother made no specific requests just provided clothing sizes.
The boys thought very hard about what to purchase for each person and we came up with what we hope are some great gift ideas for everyone. The church that contacted us provided the family with food for Christmas dinner and some addtional food.
When we arrived at the house, only the mother was home and she was sitting almost in the dark, to help keep the electrical bill down. She was so happy to see us and kept thanking us for doing this for them. They are living in half of a house and while it was very clean you could tell time was taking its toll on it. I did notice an old Playstation there and a couple of games, but everything looked very worn and outdated. The mother has hurt her back and is not able to currently work. My impression is that this lady is doing the best she can, with what she has. Given her age, I think she is either the Grandma to these kids or someone else who doing the best she can do give them a stable home.
I think this was a very postive experience for all of us.
