Hi Going to Hawaii with my DH,6 children and 2 grandchildren (4 & 6) in April staying at Aulani for 8 days and Maui for 3 Days. Booked the Andaz and now Im having second thoughts.Plan on doing a lot of activities (Road to Hana, seeing a sunrise, surfing) Will the Westin area be a better to stay?
Thank you in advance,
Lisa

I'm not familiar with the Andaz, but we stayed at the Westin Maui and loved it! My trip report is in my signature.

We did not have a rental car while on Maui so for us, the Westin was the perfect location. The side door of the Westin is literally steps to Whaler's Village, so it was nice to walk there in the evening for shopping and dining/drinks. The Starwood resorts in that area (Westin, Westin Villas, Sheraton) all run a free shuttle that loops between the resorts, Cannery Mall, the outlets, and Lahaina. It runs on a good schedule and was very convenient for us to go down to Lahaina (we loved that area!).

The Westin itself was beautiful and probably my favorite of the resorts we stayed at while in Hawaii, not including Aulani. The Westin was the smallest of the resorts we stayed in, but that made it feel not so crowded and was easy to navigate. The pool was amazing and all the food we had there was good too. Our room was upgraded from mountain view to partial ocean view and was on floor 4, right above Whaler's Village, but we never heard it. Friends of ours had a destination wedding there back in October, and they loved it as well.

My friends stay at the Andaz and love it. It has a luxurious feel and service similar to the Four Seasons.
It is in Wailea so will be a bit further drive to Hana, but the service will be at a higher standard than the Westin.

If I was going on an "adult" trip I'd stay at the Andaz, if bringing the kids I'd opt for the Westin. The Andaz is a beautiful resort, but has a much more tranquil vibe to it. Also the beach at the Westin up in Kanapali is better for kids, the beach in front of the Andaz is nice but on the small side. Both have nice restaurants within walking distance and I think the Andaz may actually be closer to some of the things you want to do though. They both have their pros and cons.

Four Seasons!!!!! Andaz is a very high end resort that is Virtuoso. Four Seasons Maui is one of the best resort I have ever seen though. I never considered Westin to be a high end chain. But Four Seasons Maui is A five diamond and five star resort. http://www.fourseasons.com/maui/. But the best Four Seasons is http://www.fourseasons.com/hualalai/. Andaz is the more boutique high end Hyatt just slightly below the Park Hyatt IMO. If your a Hyatt Member pick that one. Andaz looks just so good. Never been to Hawaii. PS are those resorts similar in Price? Also consider the Montage.
