And which one is the bigger idiot?

What happened to the sepaartion of church and state that everyone's always yapping about??? Religious laws shouldn't apply to legal/police matters.

When all is said and done, I hope they end up having to pay the court costs. Yet another frivolous lawsuit.

The baby and the mother are victims of abuse, it sounds like to me...... :(

How can anybody possibly think this would be safe? What are they thinking? "Sure, being in a carseat is pretty safe, but if I'm nursing...Well that's just like having an armored shield around them."
And if she was "physically assaulted by two police officers", why don't I remember those lawsuits on Good Morning America?
She's an idiot and he's a controlling, manipulative idiot. JMO

UGH I saw this today on Good Morning America. It made me LIVID!!

First of all I have seen first hand what happens to children not in car seats when an accident occurs. That made me furious!!

Then all the other details came out and I really dont know who is worse off. I still think the poor baby is endangered. She willingly admitted that this isnt the first time ( she said it was the third) and that she had RESEARCHED it before she did it. Which to me says " I know this is wrong, but I want to find a loophole" there is a small loophole at the bottom of the child seat law that says it doesnt apply to children being nursed thats what their lawyers are sticking to but officials say it is IMPLIED that the loophole applied to passengers NOT drivers!

Anyway, when you bring in the whole husband thinking the way he does ( which is their choice but that isnt the issue) the fact is he was NOT BREASTFEEDING THE CHILD ( something I would like to see him try if he thinks he's so forceful ;) ) so he did not commit the crime. Period. Im so tired of people saying that we should bend all laws because of religion! ( reference the woman who wanted to leave her Burqua on for her drivers lisence picture)
Whats next???

I do not know that it is abuse or even to the point of being manipulative IF he is willing to take all punishment for the offence.

Of course, I disagree with his entire premise, but that is beside the point..

My main concern was that it said that in Michigan nursing was an exception to the child restraint rule. Please tell me I misinterpreted that.

When either of our DDs were still nursing and we were on a long trip, we would pull over somewhere. I wasn't about to take one of them out of the carseat, even if DW went to the back seat with them, while the vehicle was moving.

If we ran late, we ran late. It's not worth the risk.

I can't get that link to open for me, just a blank screen. I'll try again later

Even if there is an exclusion to the law I doubt it applies to nursing while driving. If she was in an accident the baby would have been smooshed between her and the steering wheel. Not to mention if the airbag had gone off.

I can't believe ANYONE would consider nursing while driving

I just wondered if they allowed you to remove a child from child restraints to nurse in one of the passenger seats while the car is in motion.

I hope not.

Poor child. She couldn't have stopped the car and fed her child in a parking lot. What a dope!

Excellent Comments Binny!

Alan, that is the law as I understand it. You may take a child out of te carseat to nurse.

it would very ummmm akward to do it any other way ;)

I cant believe that the law is in place!!

In Idaho everyone must be buckled UNLESS an adult is unbuckled to take care of a child ( in a car seat) ie to give food or comfort without removing them from the carseat.

It sounds to me like they are both completely nuts.

Her for thinking it's OK to nurse a baby while driving a car, and him for thinking that anyone will take seriously his complaint that punishment of his wife by anyone but him will be a violation of his religious rights.

Throw her into jail, throw him into an insane asylum, and put the baby with parents that have a working brain cell between them.

Yes, I'm sure it would be :p

I'm fine with removing the child for nursing, just not while the vehicle is in motion.

Of course, when they were small, we pulled over to feed them also, so we wouldn't give food while moving either (if they needed assistance with it)

Now that they are older but still in carseats, I can just pass the chicken nuggets back to them. Whoo-hoo!

See, this is why it makes no sense that you have to have a license to get a dog while any idiot can have a kid.

They're both messed in the head and that kid has no shot at a normal life.

O.K., so she is driving down the road at 65 and the baby starts crying because it is hungry...how the heck did she get the baby on her lap?? Did she take the time to pull over for that or did she endanger all of the people around her by getting the baby out while driving? Either way she did not use her brain for this one.

While it is undoubtedly a stupid, reckless thing to breastfeed a baby while driving a car, the thing that really gives me the chills is the husband saying that he is the only one who can "punish" his wife. What kind of person would put up with being punished by their DH? (Unless it's some kinky part of their religion.;) )

Yikes, I had no idea there were people like that in this day and age. "I'm responsible for what she does, and no one can punish her except me." Uh, freaky much? That's a way to romance a lady if I ever saw one.

They seem to both be a little dim-witted, especially for thinking that it's perfectly alright to breastfeed an infant while operating a moving vehicle. And for the man to say that he'd go to hell if he failed to perform his manly duties? Hate to break it to ya there bud, but you've probably already booked yourself a first class ticket if you've got it in your head that you have the right to "punish" your wife.

Michigan used to also have a law that if you swore in front of women and children, you could be fined and put in jail. A few years ago while a man was canoeing, he swore in the presence of a family and the law was put into effect. After alot of publicity, Michigan removed this law. I believe after looking into it, Michigan will be changing the seatbelt laws very soon so it includes ALL children under 4. I just looked up the seatbelt law online and could not believe there was an exclusion in there for children nursing.

Did anyone else notice the bruise on her upper right arm? That looks like a hand grabbing punishing type of bruise.:( She was very wrong about endangering her child.:(
