Sorry for so many questions but I never thought I would get to go on a Disney Cruise but my husband brought it up last night as a compromise for his and the kids love of cruising and my love of Disney World. My question is, we usually book our spring break trip to Disney with our Income tax but I don't think that will work for the cruise without only rooms completely out of our price range being the only rooms available by the time we get our money back. My question is, when will be the best time to book? We are looking at getting 2 rooms (family of 6) on Disney Magic for March 8th, 2017. We are Florida Residents if that matters.

So I thought I saw Florida resident discounts as a special savings on the Disney Cruise Website, but I may be mistaken. I've never used one because I book onboard, but people on these boards talk about how great the travel agents that specialize on DCL are when reservations are complicated.

Typically, the best (lowest) prices are on opening day for any given cruise. As the space onboard fills, the prices rise. So the further out you can book the better.

I believe, if you book now, and a Florida resident rate comes out (generally, if it's going to, it won't be until closer to the Paid in Full date), you can apply that to an already existing reservation. However, it's possible that the resident rate may not be lower than the rate you've already got. That's because the discount rates tend to be lower than the prevailing rate, not lower than opening day rates. And they will be on specific categories, not shipwide.

That's something that you'd have to figure out at the time.

I've used military and FL resident discounts, but only for last minute cruises. DCL doesn't release them too far out so it's a gamble. Plus, sometimes you end up paying about the same (or more) as opening pricing. Overall, opening day pricing still works best for us usually.

If I couldn't book on opening day, I'd set a budget, decided on cabin classification and keep an eye on cruisefish.com as I waited for the funding.

Yes, we were able to do exactly this twice already.

OP, since the March 2017 cruises have been out for quite some time, now would be the best time to book it. If a Florida Resident discount comes out, you can adjust your rate. They are on the DCl website under "Destinations" then "Special Offers" in the drop down menu. You need to check regularly, but not before the pay in full date. For a Caribbean cruise, you don't have to pay in full until 90 days before the cruise and if you cancel more than 90 days out, you will get a full refund of your deposit.
