Am planning on a trip to DL and San Diego area from 7/25 to 8/1, with DH, and two 17 year old daughters. Originally planned on staying in the Anaheim area for only 3 nights then driving down to San Diego for remainder of the trip. Am considering staying strictly in Anaheim for several reasons: after reading posts, 3 days would not be enough to thoroughly do DL and visit Hollywood, condo rentals for 4-7 nights along the ocean are just too high price wise for our budget! So, we are considering staying around in Anaheim for the entire week, then maybe driving to the beach for a day or so. Has anyone ever rented from VRBO (or otherwise) around the DisneyLand area? If so, did you rent a condo, townhouse, or house? Would you recommend it vs. a hotel/motel room? Appreciate your thoughts! Thank you.

We rented a VRBO house in the Mission Beach/Bay area in San Diego a few weeks ago. The house definitely had some goofy things wrong with it (shower wouldn't turn all the way off, kitchen sink sprayer wouldn't turn off, had problems with coffee maker, etc.). Once we figured everything out, we were fine. The house was definitely worth the money we spent and we had a great time on our trip.

So . . . I don't know about houses/condos near Disneyland but we had a positive experience with VRBO in San Diego. We've rented many houses over the years and have never had any problem with arriving and not having a house (my worst fear) or having major problems in a house. If you are nervous about renting, try going through a reputable rental agency (there should be plenty to choose from).

This is the only rental house I've ever heard anyone mention around here. :)

If you read through HydroGuy's thread about "hidden time loss" when driving into Disneyland Resort each day (found as a link inside a link from the main "sticky" thread about tips, etc) you'll see that staying *away* from DLR isn't always convenient. Being around Harbor or Katella makes it easy to walk or take ART in, and be there quickly, while parking takes up more time than you think.

Are you still considering visiting San Diego? If so, I would recommend staying down there for that part, as you'd be look at a minimum of 1.5 hours each way, probably more, for the Anaheim/San Diego trip.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. Yes, we were planning on going to San Diego, but now I am not so sure it will work out. The girls do want to do a Hollywood day, and from reading the posts, we should plan on 3-4 days for Disney Land. I am not so sure it will be worth it to pack up and move for 2-3 days, maybe we are better off spending the time in the area and just driving to a nearby beach for the day. San Diego maybe for a vacation of another time when we can devote the entire week to the area. Seems like there is so much to do there, would be hard to narrow things down for such a short period of time. I was afraid that it would take a substantial amount of time to drive back and forth. Thanks again for the helpful information.

Dismsn, did you drive back and forth to Disney Land? Could I please ask what the length of drive time was and would you do that again? Thanks for your help!
