Anaheim Plaza Hotel or Desert Inn?

We always stay at the Desert Inn & Suites, but upon looking around found that we can stay at the Plaza for about $25 per night less. We are staying 7 nights, so it would be a nice savings. I know it's a little bit farther of a walk, but that is okay with us. Other than that, is there anything I need to know about the Plaza?

Any reviews? TIA!

I have done both. Just this past June I stayed at Anaheim Plaza. ( even wrote a trip advisor) Honestly about the same. AP pool is HUGE, Plenty of parking, about as far as I am willing to walk, much farther is too far. Save your $$ stay at AP.

Thank you! What about room sizes? Are they comparable? We are a family of 8 and I don't want to be stacked on top of eachother. The Desert Inn's suites have been fine for us space wise.

I've stayed at both, and I prefer the AP. I think the staffa nd grounds are nices and it is not nearly as noisy as DI. At AP, you'd have a suite for eight people, but it is really a set of adjoining rooms. Four queen beds, 2 full baths. The rooms seem pretty big to me. I'm sure you'll be fine. As a PP said, the pool is HUGE, as opposed to the stinky indoor one at DI. Also, the walk is fine. Maybe 2 minutes longer. However, there is no free breakfast, and you have to pay for parking at AP.

Thank you. We are flying, so no parking fee.

Is there a certain area (building) that we'd like to request for our room to be? The site says they have 300 rooms, so I'm assuming there are multiple buildings.

Trip advisor reports are kind of spotty, I'd beware: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...laza_Hotel_and_Suites-Anaheim_California.html

Also the Desert Inn is just a little closer to the crosswalk; from what I have heard, it's probably worth the $25 a night to stay a little closer and with better reviews. Desert Inn is well liked on these boards; plain but clean.

Personally, I take everything said on trip advisor with a grain of salt. People can find fault in any hotel.

We've stayed at the Anaheim Plaza twice. It's an older hotel but we liked it. It's a lot quieter than most hotels. I can't stand when I can hear people in the next room and we haven't had that problem there. The rooms are pretty much standard sized. We like that they have a fridge and microwave. The walk is only about 10 minutes from our room door to the turnstiles.

I'm staying there in a couple of weeks, and when I posted asking about it, I didn't get any negatives other than the parking and the charge for wifi, neither of which affect me.

Parking at the Anaheim Plaza is only something like $4 a day...which is cheaper than some places.

We've done both. The rooms are comparable IMO. I found the the front desk staff at Desert Inn more helpful. We had a bottom floor at Anaheim Plaza and you could hear the maid's cart on the sidewalk every morning and the shower next door was really loud. Teh enclosed patio was awesome though. At Desert Inn, it was kid's playing in the courtyard area in the back. Neither overly annoying. O.k. I take that back. The shower was really annoying.

I must admit we all really disliked that long walk back to the room at the end of a long day when we stayed at the Anaheim Plaza. It's certainly worth the savings though. If you're a coffee person, there's a coffee shop at the Ramada on your way in and there's a pizza place on your way back to your hotel that's not too bad.

We liked stopping at Denny's in the morning on the way to the park from the Anaheim Plaza.

I checked the distance between AP and Desert Inn....according to google maps it's only a 3 minute difference in walk time. So not much at all. Definitely worth saving some money.

I agree. Probably only a 3 min walk from AP to DI. Probably less than 10 minutes from the door of our hotel room to the ticket gates - very close! I've stayed at the AP and would return. Great pool, very nice gift shop, and a restaurant where kids eat free.

I vote for AP, bigger pool, nice rooms. But again it depends upon what you are looking for from your hotel to service you. Me personally, I look for the bed. More comfortable I sleep, the better trip I have. I personally do the Marriott brands.

I've stayed at both and honestly wouldn't recommend either one, but if I HAD to pick one it would be the Desert Inn. We stayed at AP in June and had a horrible experience and would NEVER stay there again and would NEVER recommend it to anyone.

And before anyone flames me about being picky, etc... that is not the case at all! I am all about finding a great deal and I know you get what you pay for, but the Plaza really was horrible and their customer service is the worst!

It's actually a long story, but the short version is:

1) we had to be moved several times becasue of room issues,

2) my niece was on crutches and they mopped the hallways, but didn't put out any signs, she ended up slipping and falling and when she did a maid was standing right there and she started laughing and didn't offer to help. My hands were full of luggage so I couldn't get to her right away. It was awful! I asked her to help and she just looked at me and laughed. When someone finally came to try and help, I had already dropped everything and was able to help my niece up. She was fine, just shaken up, but I couldn't beleive that the woman would laugh and then just stand there staring at me.

3) we also had issues with the room we finally ended up in, it was damp the whole time, the air didn't work and the floors were dirty.

4) Trying to get anyone there to tall to you or help you with anything was a joke.

5) I sent several emails to the manager after we got back and I have never once received a response from anyone at that hotel.

It was just not a nice experience and we had stayed there a few times before.

I know many people love it there, but not me and my family!

That is horrible about your niece. :sad1: Thank you for sharing. I definately want to hear both the good and bad.

So it was mostly more of a problem with the staff than the overall hotel. I've encountered terrible staff and just about every hotel I've ever been to.

I suppose, but I also feel like the hotel is run down and not very well maintained!
