Has anyone stayed at the Anabella Hotel on Katella Ave? Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks

We stayed at the Anabella last June. We really liked it. DD had her own little room, so we could unwind a bit when we put her to bed and did not have to go right to bed. It was a great walk, we went down and through GC and DTD. DD was almost 5 and walked it all, no stroller, no whining!

A couple hints: Ask for a second floor room. They have some hard wood flooring and we were on the bottom floor, the people above us were loud. Become their 'friend' on facebook. I did, and ended up with an envelope at the front desk for free breakfasts all week. Their food was pretty good, and pool was nice. The maid always made up DD's bed with her stuffed animals real cute! We may stay there again in December, but right now have reservations elsewhere, strictly based on price.

I would recommend the Anabella to anyone!

Did you let them know specific information about your reservations when you friended them?

We stay there each time we go, love it. I agree, second floor is the way to go, no stomping when you are trying to sleep. The beds are comfortable, and the second room with the daybed for my daughter was great, her own space with a television to relax by herself. I recommend it to everyone!

I'm curious about this too. How did the hotel know you were/are their friend/fan?

Do they have hardwood floor on the second floor too, now? When I first stayed there it was only on the ground floor.

I've stayed there twice now...last time was a couple months ago on what was supposed to be a one-night, spend the next day at Disneyland before we catch our flight (after a family reunion thing). Alas DS got stomach flu (which had been spreading like wildfire at the reunion) in the middle of the night and we stayed one more night there before I realized we weren't getting on a plane anytime soon and called my brother (who lives in San Diego) to rescue us.

They gave us a decent price on that second night, they got sheets to us at 2am when we desperately needed new bedding, they had the room thoroughly cleaned the day we were supposed to be at Disneyland (but were out getting supplies for the day instead, poor kid whimpering the whole way but it was just the two of us, no choice!). They were very nice.

The walk is a bit longer than if oyu're staying on Harbor right across from the entrance, but it's pretty if you go across the street and walk past Paradise Pier Hotel and through the Grand.

thanks for the responses so far...2nd floor seems to be the place to be:)...how long does it take to walk to the main gate at DL?
The other hotels near the gates look like "hotels"...this place has a 'resort' look to it...am I right?

I'd say about 15 minutes, using the GCH to cut through. Maybe a bit longer with slow walkers and a room towards the back versus the front.

thanks skiingfast...you have been a great help....i think we can handle the walk...i don't mind sacrificing a longer walk for a nicer 'ambiance' during our stay

The thing I like is that its on Katella, so its not busy like Harbour where most people are. The walk to Disneyland may be a bit longer but its a quiet palm tree lined street then you get to walk through the Grand Californian (I always like to have a seat in the lobby and take in the $300 a night ambiance for free :) then walk along downtown Disney to the main gates. And if at night the walk is a little far, the ART has a stop across the street so no need to walk.

I spoke to them a couple of days ago and they told me the rooms on the 2nd floor all have carpet and the rooms on the 1st floor are hardwood. I chose the 1st floor because I'm a bit of a germaphob. :confused3

I hope I didn't make the wrong decision.

I think shortly before our trip I posted a comment about being excited to stay there and maybe asked a question about something. I posted a couple of reponses to other comments and 'liked' a couple of things. WHen they had the envelope at the front desk that is the only think I could think of that got me those tickets. The envelope had my name on it.

Yes, I would agree with that. I liked the spanish feel! We never made it to the quiet pool, but the main pool was nice, and we had a snack and drinks out there.

WOW! I must have just had loud people above us. Maybe just thin floors. I loved the look of the hardwood!

I think the walk is nice and enough going on around you, it does no feel that long. Also, after a late night in DCA, head out the exit through GCH and shortens the walk! We did that after WOC. I loved the quite morning walk through DTD. The flowers along the walk were some of my favorites! Check out my trip report to see one.
