Thought I'd share this, I read it in the paper and thought it was quite inspirational.

A soldier's coming out story...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1234993/Gay-trooper-says-coming-best-decision.html

Certainly got some courage - I especially love how he broke the news:
He said: 'I had been out at a nightclub and the next morning the lads all asked if I'd had any luck. I just said "His name was Ryan".

And yes, that is a High School Musical duvet he's got on his bunk.

*BTW I'd ask that this thread not get tied up in talk of the conflict, but rather the soldiers story, please*

Wow. That is a very inspirational story. I'm saving that link. I think the most inspirational part of the story is contained within the other soldiers' opinions. It's great that he was able to muster up the courage to come out, but it's also very inspiring that the other soldiers did not give in to peer pressure and they accepted who he was.

Btw, I love the comforter

You know? I have ALWAYS maintained that the British are a very civilized people.

Perhaps we'll catch up one day. :guilty:

I love how he said he IS being accepted. The VERY thing the government TRIED to tell us would NEVER happen, which is why they don't want us in the service. I guess our government never had any faith in it's own people.

My son has been in the Army for 6 years. When he 1st went in, he was quite homophobic. However, it was the ARMY that changed that for him. He ended up meeting many gays & lesbians whom he works with and befriended. He realized, wow, their just like me. It made my coming out so much easier. Being in the service has opened my son's eyes in a GOOD way, and for that, I'm so thankful! ;)

Very interesting. Ultimately, it's wonderful that your son was able to get past his fears. ::yes::

Yeah I had to chuckle myself. I did think it was "just for the cameras" but maybe not so much.

Kinda cute he has a thing for Zac Efron... then again don't we all? ;)

Why thank you. Nice to hear someone still likes us. :)
