An idea about the mug

This is just an idea of mine, and likely not something that would ever happen, though it would give the dining plans a bit more flexibility.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the refillable mug could work in quick service restaurants that offer free refills? It isn’t very many and now that drink credits include alcohol they could offer a trade for for a dessert instead of beverage at those restaurants. The vast majority of the desserts at QS locations are less expensive than their alcoholic drink options anyway. If they felt necessary they could raise the price of mug to reflect its improved value.

Im confused! What drink credits? Do you mean a dining plan credit? If you are talking about the dining plan credits and you are in fact on the dining plan, the mug is free, so raising the price of the mug, would basically be raising the price of the dining plan and if that were the case, you might as well just pay for the drink (or dessert)!

QS credits do include an alcoholic beverage for those 21 and over (or a specialty non-alcoholic drink for those who don’t want alcohol or are under 21). The screenshot references the QS dining plan but this is true of a QS credit on any dining plan.

I’m not sure what they’d have to do to make the refillable mugs work in the parks (from a financial standpoint, not a mechanical one). I’m not sure adding cost to the dining plan/ mug and then adding a dessert works in Disney’s favor. Plus then what to do about the alcoholic drinks?

I wish the mug was simpler to carry around with you. I don't know how they could innovate it any differently, I mean it's a cup for pete's sake, but I just hate how clunky and annoying it is. Maybe including some type of clip so you could attach it to something to ensure it didn't fall out of a cup holder on a bag? Or a strap so you can wear it around your neck while walking around? idk, Something!! Last trip I didn't even use my mug because it was too annoying to look after.

Agreed. We figured out how to make it work so I could have my coffee while waiting for the bus, but then had to rinse it out and stow it in our bag for the rest of the day. The handle also means it doesn't fit in my cupholder in the car!! Would LOVE to see a design that included a caribener clip or something that would make it a little more portable.

Exactly! I literally left my cup behind in the hotel my last trip because I have a cup from my 2016 stay that collects dust due to not being user-friendly. They're really not that great of quality so leaving it behind doesn't bother me that much bc I have better mugs at home....

Trust me, you're not the first person to think of this
Disney is not doing this for some reason, most likely because they've done the math and have determined the current way is the best way to deal with the mugs
I agree it's annoying and inconvenient to only have them work at the resorts, but people have been complaining about it for years and nothing has changed so don't go holding your breath lol

Honestly, what we do is bring the mugs in with us and dump whatever left over drink at QS (or get an extra refill at TS) into the mug. As for bringing with, they have handles on them, fit nicely in cup holders, not sure how much better they could make them, except to make them hold more liquid than they do.

As for why the mugs aren't refillable in the parks, I suspect it is because you get a drink with your meal only, making it refillable would mean you could refill the mug anytime and bottled/extra fountain drink sales (which are both pretty much pure profit for them) would drop dramatically and that doesn't count the people who buy the mug, but aren't on the dining plan.

Overall, I would like to see Disney abandon single use cups like many zoos have already done in favor of a cup you buy once for about $5 and then refill for a $1 or so per refill, if Disney were truly serious about the environment they would be doing this and it would resolve the drink problem I mentioned as well. Another alternative would be to make the mugs only refillable when you buy a meal, but that could get more complicated.
