Not in this lifetime!! But that's what faced us at Kona on last Sunday morning at around 9:30 Am. Of course we didn't wait, and wound up over at the Grand Floridian Cafe. But having had almost the same thing happen to us last trip (a 45 minute wait) I am revising all of my former advice and now suggest that anyone who wants to eat breakfast at Kona (especially after 8:30 AM)make reservations.

Guess word is out that it's a good place to dine. What a bummer! I didn't find it anywhere near worth that kind of wait. 15 minutes, maybe...

ok, from now on, anyone asks, Tonga Toast is lousy and you should never ever go to Kona :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Gosh, if I had a Tonga Toast jones, I would have gotten some to go from Captain Cooks! I'd be right there with you going to the GF Cafe instead.

I guess 9:30 on a Sunday morning is not a good time for breakfast at Kona!!! Do they serve Tonga Toast all day???

I always make a reservation for any meal at Disney just so I can avoid situations like the one described. Sunday morning is typically a family time for a meal together. Maybe on the way to church or on the way back from church. Or (in my house) before the football games start for the day. Additionally, a lot of people are leaving Disney World on Sundays so one last meal before they hit the road or the airplane.

I have always had 9:00 am ress and never had more than a 5 mim wait to get in.

Ugh- this happened to us several times our last trip- this time I know better and WILL NOT WAIT- my kids, not to mention DH and I, were SO DONE by the time we got a table we didn't want to wait any longer for our food. Next time we'll just do CS if we wait longer than 20 mins for a table.....

So how was GF Cafe for breakfast? We always have lunch there but have never done breakfast.

I agree about making reservations for Kona breakfast. We always do with the exception of one vacation a year or two ago. We changed plans at the last moment and decided to "drop in" as we were staying there...actually checked out that day so it was probably a Sunday too. Anyway, we were quoted a half hour wait.

I have noticed over the years that Sundays seem quite busy at Kona. I wonder if it's a favorite of locals on Sunday mornings?

Could be a local thing--or a situation like Disnut 8 says. Actually, we never used to do Kona at all. Our favorite MK breakfast was always at Tonys. We'd grab a nice table and have a leisurely breakfast watching the crowds stream by getting into the MK!
The GFC was "ok"-nothing really special that would get me back there for breakfast over Kona. But at least we got a table!!

Roedisney: The short wait was always the case for us as well--until these last two trips. And always on Sunday, our traditional MK day.

We always make a reservation just in case (have two for our trip next week). Love the shrimp omelette and the press pot (and maybe a bloody mary!).
